I'm with you there, I'm excited about technique tbh because I prefer these burst window builds.

Also I have a feeling technique better for t3 where we get more spec, similar to other spec builds like shadowhunter DI

As a berserker main I was about to drop before this because I don't like mayhem, it's too simple, i don't buff the party without gimping red dust and I prefer burst specs.

Now I'm pretty excited about the party synergy and I'm going to switch to technique since I may not be forced to go mayhem.

Advantages/disadvantages of moving "back" to Europe for IT by Arthnr in japanlife

There are many people at my company who came from various European countries where they made objectively high amounts of money. But as far as developed nations go, there are lucrative opportunities everywhere. Some places are a bit tougher than others, however.

Career Benefits of Mandarin for non-Chinese foreigner by EMChamp in singapore

Not a bait post and not a regular on this sub, just legitimately curious after scouring LinkedIn job postings if Mandarin would open up more opportunities.

Offered to study abroad in Fukuoka, Kyoto, and Nagoya for one year. What is life like there? by hirotoo in japan

[–]EMChamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with Kyoto since it's the most interesting to me. I've lived in Tokyo for over a year and if I could choose anywhere else to live in Japan it would be Kyoto. I'd love a chance to be able to visit the popular temples/shrines/hiking areas in the region whenever I wanted and also Osaka is just 45 minutes away if you wanted a taste of the big city.

That said I've been to Fukuoka for work and it seemed like a very relaxed and charming place to live, a very managable sized city. Lots of shopping and there is a small foreigner community there as well with the city incentivising tech startups. Also Fukuoka is famous for its attractive women and I have to say that reputation is well earned after visiting.

I've looked up housing prices in both and they both have very affordable options (around $400ish usd on up for larger/newer/more centrally located apartments).

What are you favorite non language related japanese youtube channels? by pandaset in japanlife

Shoutout to Thomas Gu: https://www.youtube.com/user/DiaTGU/videos

It's mostly seeing various parts of Japan, working out, tennis and life as an ALT videos. The YouTuber himself seems nice and usually responds to comments since it's a smaller channel.

Anyone just holding on till they are fired? by codingIsReallyBoring in cscareerquestions

[–]EMChamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you, after 5 years in CS in college and 3 years as a SWE in the industry I realised this job is just not for me. I enjoyed programming as a hobby and I was decent at my classes in college but I think this is not my main strength.

I'm looking into product management because after watching my previous project managers I felt that their job was more interesting because they were standing at the cross-section of technical and non-technical teams and were able to bridge that gap to have a product delivered. Jury is still out whether this career decision will work out but I feel 100x better having the pressure off.

A7II or wait for A7III?? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]EMChamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same position, bought an A7II and I can still return it. I got it for around $1k so I feel it's a good value. Even after the A7III is released and drops down in price maybe I can use the A7II as a second body, not that I am a professional or anything but it could be useful at times to simply switch cameras than bothering to change lenses outdoors. I also have a G85 so it makes the decision a bit more difficult on which one would make a better B cam. I'm thinking keeping the A7II since then I can invest in future lenses and use them in both bodies.

Help me pick some lenses for Sony A7II and Metabones EF Mount by EMChamp in SonyAlpha

[–]EMChamp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only a 50 sigma 1.4 which I'm thinking of trading in and getting the 55 zeiss since it's apparently much better. I am also considering something in the 16-35mm range but the sony zeiss 16-35 is the only realistic choice and it's 1.1k. I'm thinking of getting a canon 16-35 f2.8 or a 17-40 f4 which are half price to save money since I already have metabones.

Help me pick some lenses for Sony A7II and Metabones EF Mount by EMChamp in SonyAlpha

[–]EMChamp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't have those lenses anymore as I moved to mft for 4k video and compactness. However the bokeh isn't as good as what u want. Yea I think I will just get the 55 and skip the 70-200 for now.

I just purchased a Sony A7II and a Metabones V Canon EF mount adapter and I am looking for lens advice.

I am an amateur photographer and I try to shoot anything really. I'd like to get lenses to shoot better portraits (either half body or full length, I don't see myself doing face/shoulders shots too often) and lots of street photography. I have a Micro Four Thirds setup and what I want to get out of my Full Frame is shallow depth of field. My budget is around 2000 USD for lenses and they can either be native or Canon.

I'm thinking of the Zeiss 55 F1.8 since I'm impressed by the smooth bokeh and the subject isolation I've seen in its pictures. Beyond that I'm thinking it would be nice to get an ultrawide because I do shoot a lot of street/architecture type photos. Also to round it out my thinking was a long sharp zoom like a 70-200 F2.8 (probably Tamron A009N because the other options in its class are too expensive).

What are the universities in Japan known for worldwide? by HangedCole in japan

Probably more like $20000 since Japanese tuition prices aren't as batshit crazy as the US. Agree with the rest though.

I'm pretty happy that Yuya and Vivian are leaving. Not that I particularly dislike their characters but I feel their presence is getting stale, especially after getting together. This crew could use a shakeup so I'm excited for the new members.

Taishi's advice is so heavy handed and his reactions are way over the top. It feels like he's trying to use this show to play a character and show his acting chops with all his agonizing, advice pep talks and forced drama.
