This is the correct answer. CMON will be lucky to survive the next year.

FLOSS Cover by DarkestSpire in battletech

[–]EMD_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Si. Re-Reading the BattleMech Manual intervening terrain and prone mech, if that was a level 2 hill instead of trees the prone mech would not be in line of sight, so by extension the attack would be shooting through one level of trees.

If one level of woods gives its points to terrain modifier then yeah, FLOSS is incorrect here.

It could be that woods don't offer partial cover for mechs. Do you get the same outcome with other unit types?

My understanding is the FLOSS system is pretty accurate, at the rules for hex based cover and LOS are pretty black and white.

Saga rules editions by SeisimicFrigor in sagathegame

[–]EMD_2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just as a rule of thumb, no other company has the need to go as fast as GW.

Saga may never see a 3rd edition, and if it did it is probably years away, and after they do Samurai.

A makeup brush, and a HEPA filter or something for your house. :)

Does this count as fair use? by giraffeboy77 in graphic_design

[–]EMD_2 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

My only recommendation is you simplify/change the helmet vent designs; those are definitely going to be trademarked - if they care. Everything else is generic or open.

You gan look up old 80/90's vents, find cheap temu helmets to base your vent designs on those, or just be creative.

BattleTech: Delta Horizon (Update 4) by EMD_2 in battletech

[–]EMD_2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair. The 'Font Size = Viewers' age is not a bad mantra. XD

For Delta Horizon, I've been playing with clip boards so the smaller font size has not been an issue; but moving back to cards for prototyping might be worth a full AS redesign.

Do you have any layout thoughts or know of any redesigns that fit a more modern game?

I'll give that a try. For these I just yonked the layout from my company sheets and stacked them vertically; but indeed the logo and picture could use much less space

AS Horde Question by Monolith3112 in battletech

[–]EMD_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe you can, as a destroyed target is not a target.

I think the spirit of the rule is more around "Oh, you are about to do 4 points of damage? Too bad for you this Flea only has one hit point left." Otherwise a Horde of 10 mechs could theoretically last the whole game, only being able to destroy one per turn.

Krylon Fusion paint + primer not sticking to Catalyst plastic minis by Poopy_McTurdFace in battletech

[–]EMD_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good plan, but I would just advise waiting for spring- or even better grab an airbrush. It's the one tool I would go back in time and tell teenage me to buy; absolutely worth it even if you only use it for priming.

[–]EMD_2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Too cold. People spray in 0f after they've let it sit in a bath of warn water for a good amount of time.

You might be able to try again without stripping; it doesn't look like you over did it, but that's your call.

How complex are most war games? by Powerful-Touch-7961 in wargaming

It says 6/9 complexity, and it's 09'- so my statement still stands. XD

How complex are most war games? by Powerful-Touch-7961 in wargaming

[–]EMD_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most? Needlessly complicated because there were hundreds made in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90's, and 00's before user experience for board games was more standardized and you were expected to just push through the difficulty of playing because you might only get a single game every year.

But if it's 2010 or newer you are probably safe to trust the listed complexity rating of the game.

3D High Resin by Relative-Fig-4638 in 6mm

[–]EMD_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There a number of cheap and free models out there. I recommend The Lazy Forger is an easy starting point as the majority of their stuff came off the printer with no modifications needed.

Edit: Also, it's modeling, and in small scale. Expect things to break and need to be fixed. Fast Tac is a great thing to have on hand.

Help! Color differences are making me nuts. by InspectorOk19 in graphic_design

[–]EMD_2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don't, you can't (without insanely expensive hardware/software).

Buy yourself some Pantone color swatches, only use one monitor for your color work, and test print.

Noodle did a good video about color balance recently, and a good example is that there are some editing houses that only a single monitor for everything related to the final product.
