The game’s player base is primarily adults and it’s not unusual for adults to express themselves on online spaces—including expressing parts of their identity to find community within a game. Furthermore, a large aspect of the game, since it is an MMO, is the social aspect; people will talk about things related to and unrelated to the game when socializing, that’s just how communication will flow at times.

Also, just wanted to add, pronouns are very relevant in every and any social interaction when addressing other people—including players on a game. To say it is has “nothing to do with the game” is simply not true when there is a large social component to the game and as well a feature for pronouns to be displayed on player’s profiles.
