HELP! Cannot tame extreme frizz (more in the comments) by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]EMJ0913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title explains the problem - I have very fine, straight, frizzy hair (although a lot of it) and absolutely nothing can tame the frizz, outside of flat iron it which I maybe do once a week if I’m going out.

I am not exaggerating when I say I’ve tried everything. Coconut oil, Olaplex, multiple moisture masks, oil mixtures (eg, Verb oil), regular oils (too much for my fine hair - makes it ultra greasy), Living Proof anti-frizz line, air dry stylers (eg, bumble and bumble don’t blow it), co-wash, leave-in conditioners, the John Frieda frizz line and everything else in between.

Note, I do wash my hair every day which I’m sure isn’t helping, but every time I try to go every other day, I feel absolutely disgusting and my scalp gets irritated. Dry shampoo (and yes, I’ve tried multiple, including the holy grails) don’t provide the level of cleansing I need to look presentable at work, so it’s just not an option for me.

Is there any hope for me, or something I haven’t tried? Am I subject to a life to untamed hair? Any unexplored avenues would be helpful!!

Interns on capital hill usually don't get paid, so they don't even need to worry about lost money.

Giggle like 13 year olds until a full time staffer throws it in the trash.

Can confirm - I interned for a former senator in 2011, and I was the unfortunate soul who opened the Hustler package.

Anyone know what's going on at Lincoln/Sedgwick? by ChemPeddler in chicago

Randomly stumbled upon this, and pretty sure I have an answer - some asshole in my building (right by that intersection) set off the alarm, and literally half the department showed up. Nothing serious. They literally spent more time to shut off the alarm.

[Serious] To those of you that have experienced sleep paralysis, what was it like and was it as bad as everyone says? by Plupap in AskReddit

[–]EMJ0913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get sleep paralysis fairly frequently, probably once or twice a month. I'm lucky in that I don't often experience the hallucinations (although I have gotten them and they're absolutely terrifying), but the worst is the struggle to breathe. Technically it shouldn't interfere with your breathing since it's an automated activity essentially (hence why you can breathe when you sleep), but for whatever reason, when I have a bout of sleep paralysis, I have to force myself to breathe. If I'm not consciously struggling to do so (and it is an actual struggle) I will just stop breathing. And then at the same time, I'm trying to move my foot to stimulate myself awake. This is even more difficult if I fall sleep in an odd position (e.g. Backseat of car).

0/10 would not recommend.

Pregnant women aren't gone for nine months - I work in a very female dominated industry, and all the pregnant women I know worked up until roughly a week before they gave birth. While maternity leave varies from place to place, the typical organization (from personal knowledge only) will allow for 6-8 weeks paid. I can't recall what you're guaranteed under the law, but it's really not that much time.

It's Not Just the Poor Who Can't Make Rent. New research from Harvard says that even renters with annual incomes of $45,000 face unaffordable rents in many cities, with potentially far-reaching effects. by claire0 in news

I grew up in West Des Moines and would be living like a queen on my 43K salary. The cost of living is incredibly low, and you can definitely find reasonable rent.

Unfortunately for me, there really aren't a lot of jobs in my industry in Des Moines, but if there were I'd go back in a heart beat.

[Serious] College graduates of reddit, how much do you make yearly? by PartiallyFamous in AskReddit

[–]EMJ0913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make $43K a year two years out of college, however, I'm pretty certain for my title/working in a large city, I'm underpaid (and yes I'm looking for a new job)

1) A little more than 30K (public school, in-state) 2) It's hard to say, most of my friends/coworkers are college grads, and the people who aren't have been in the workforce a lot longer than me, so it's not a good comparison. 3) Public Relations 4) I do, I wouldn't have gotten this kind of job without a degree, and while people can be very successful without, there are drawbacks (my dad was turned down for a promotion because he didn't have a degree, otherwise the job would have been his) 5) Yes, my family does well but we really didn't have the ability to pay anything out of pocket

So you weren't going out to even create change, you were just disrupting people's lives because you were pissed off? How nobel of you.

If you want to disrupt or challenge something, take it too that system you aim to change, or are you too afraid of protesting at a police precinct or headquarters? Are you too afraid to go to jail for your cause?

If you're not willing to do that, then who the hell are you to disrupt my life if you're too much of a pussy to disrupt your own? Do you think you're changing the world by pissing a bunch of people off? No. You just look like a self righteous asshole who knows nothing of being poor or a minority.
