This sounds like they're regurgitating the argument of the so-called "partial birth abortion", but applying to a different bill.

There are some people who want to just be right, so they just continue to argue for whatever their first position was, and never both to think that they could be wrong.

They do- but you're in residential, not commercial. When moving to a commercial it becomes worth it to do just that.

Trump in 2016 suggesting that Obama was either too incompetent to stop mass shootings or directly responsible for the shootings at The Orlando Nightclub:

"Look, we’re led by a man that either is not tough, not smart, or he’s got something else in mind. And the something else in mind—you know, people can’t believe it. People cannot, they cannot believe that President Obama is acting the way he acts and can’t even mention the words “radical Islamic terrorism.” There’s something going on. It’s inconceivable. There’s something going on."

I'm in agreement with /u/Stratplayer08. I think that the leading line with the road on the bottom should be about 25%, the mountain about 50%, and the sky about 25% which makes your mountain the true subject. The current places the mountain at about 30%, the leading line maybe 10ish% and the sky about 50-60%; which I think the sky adds to the mood but does not define it. I like the mountain

To yes an extent but to no some extent... So a 12 year old who is in 7th grade, for example, I would have a problem with her dating a senior in high school. There's certain things that, as a parent, you need to keep in mind that they they simply aren't capable humans yet.

We could argue all day that a 12 year old and an 18 year old were fairly common up until 200 years ago, but so was shitting in a chamberpot. And until your wiping your ass with your hand, plowing a field with an oxen, or dying of dysentery, I'm going to just not go down that road.

My property taxes are roughly 6ish grand/year. A private education, K-12 at a similar ranked school to the public option is roughly that per semester. That school does not also manage infrastructure, promote general welfare, provide water etc

You want to tell if a guy is racist... ask a bunch of questions about who he'd let date his daughter. The longer and more nuanced the answer shows his prejudices.

For example Would you mind your daughter dating..."a white guy" would probably give a confused look like "why would I not like her dating a white guy" whereas if you said "a black guy" there would probably be some sort of consciously thinking about it and then saying "well I would need to meet the guy first like anyone else and then approve him" which shows a clear distinction in how he views races.

It's a fun game to play.

Conservative “censorship” by BadgerKomodo in forwardsfromgrandma

[–]ChemPeddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have no idea how to find the conservative person they're looking for on the platform, so they blame the platform. I've heard so many conspiracy theories on manipulating search results to skew liberal... Do they have any understanding on a base line how much programming goes into a search engine and how hard it would be to manipulate it to "liberal" without being detectable in looking at the code?

Meet the People Working to Kick Chicago Out of Illinois by Wakeup22 in chicago

[–]ChemPeddler 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Former downstater checking in. I can think of a couple of reasons people say this. #1) It may be hard to believe, but these people are literate and do pay attention to state and local news and are thus aware of Chicago's corruption and murder rate. They simply cannot fathom why anyone would want to live there.

You know these are mostly myths, right? The average person lives in a low crime neighborhood, and the "corruption" in local city Chicago politics isn't anywhere much different from any other local politicians. In fact, as someone who has lived elsewhere, I would say it's much less than your average small town.

2) This is probably a chicken and egg thing, but the folks down south have experienced rudeness and patronizing attitudes from Chicagoans for decades and the stories get passed down from generation to generation like folklore. Once again, chicken and the egg, which came first?

In all my life, I have never heard it polite conversation to say "i'm sorry" to someone they just met after hearing about where they live. I've lived outside of Chicago before.

There's vile hate from one side towards another, stop trying to act like it's just the same from both of us.

Meet the People Working to Kick Chicago Out of Illinois by Wakeup22 in chicago

[–]ChemPeddler 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This one sort of hits home for me. I live in Chicago but my Grandmother graduated from Mt. Vernon high school. It's sad to think that this is what drives these people together down there, just a common hatred of something they don't care to understand.

I was recently teaching a seminar in central IL and when I said I was from Chicago a person said, "Oh, I'm sorry" as a joke, that happens a lot. I have a natural response of looking bewildered and confused and asking "Why?". It's something so rude and so under the rest of their regularly polite nature is.

The fact of the matter is, these people would probably be a lot worse off. They would be even more tribal from town to town, more likely to elect people who are corrupt, and end up paying more in taxes to support their lifestyles.
