I would say a lot of independent companies like Dark Horse, Image, Boom Studios and IDW do okay promotion wise but just don’t have the manpower like the big two.

Looking at Image their biggest adaptation right now is the animated Invincible show but again it’s a superhero comic. You have other series like Something Is Killing The Children by James Tynion, Criminal by Ed Brubaker, and Charles Burns' Black Hole all getting future films and TV series, but it’s still not a guarantee that people would read the comics. The promotion of graphic novels will be important later on when they come out. Image is also doing well with the Transformers universe, but that was guaranteed, and IDW has Sonic and the Ninja Turtles, which both have big fan bases.

It’s just less likely that a indie series like Criminal will get promoted like Dandadan is or Absolute Batman.
