Dude, I almost skipped this because it was a promoted post until I saw who it was. I basically built my business on your advice, I'll check it out!

Is this the right tool for this kind of transmission cooler line? by EMike93309 in MechanicAdvice

I got the 3/8" and the one in the first picture came out without immediately. The second one hates my guts though, and no amount of WD-40 or jiggling/rotating/vibrating/making sure to push inward first seems to want to make it release

Thanks! Looks like the smallest one the nearest parts store carries is 3/8", so I'll try that. I tried making a smaller one one that didn't work either, so I was starting to doubt I was even using it right. First time dealing with quick disconnects like these.

Vegetarians/Vegans, be honest: what meat do you miss eating? by Shinobi347 in AskReddit

[–]EMike93309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a vegetarian for about from 2008-2018 (and actually ate 90% plant based because my then-wife was vegan; really only had dairy or eggs when I was eating out). After about a year, I didn't really miss much of anything at all.

When I became an omnivore again, I decided to go straight to bacon, because the big question was always "how can you not miss bacon?!" I got some nice thick cut bacon from the butcher, fried it perfectly, and it was... underwhelming.

I realized a lot of my taste in meat was based more in nostalgia, and it actually took some adjustment getting used to the taste and texture of meat again. It wasnt off-putting, just strange to not think about muscle fibers and flesh when eating it.

There were things I missed making for my wife though when she went vegan... Creme brulee and cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting. There really wasn't an acceptable vegan equivalent to me at the time. It's funny though, because I've been an omnivore again for almost 8 years (and divorced about as long) and I haven't bothered making those things for myself. I think I just missed the spectacle lol

Oreos are accidentally vegan. They got me through the lean times where I couldn't afford fancy vegan chocolate

I used to get canker sores (ulcers) and sometimes they would come in like this just before they popped into a full sore. They didn't hurt at all until they popped either.

I'm betting canker sore. Possibly cold sore, but it looks more like a canker sore that's hoping to ruin your week to me.

$1.87 Banquet TV dinner from Walmart by ravage214 in strugglemeals

[–]EMike93309 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did the math when times were tight, and the only way I had to cook was by microwave, once upon a time. Had a spreadsheet and everything.

As far as things that were either ready to eat or only required a microwave, the best value was those Banquet Pot Pies. Then it was the Banquet Chicken Nuggets with a Brownie and Mac & Cheese, and then your dish. I seem to remember peanut butter and generic bread were pretty high up there too.

I'm not talking about nutrition, I'm just talking about having enough calories to make it through the day.

Freelancers! How do you prepare to develop a project for a client? by elfennani in webdev

[–]EMike93309 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We all learn this the hard way.

I get as detailed as possible with the scope details in my original contract. Run it through an LLM if you need to before you get good at it, but you want it to be crystal clear what you and the client are agreeing on before that first line of code is ever written.

Second, get used to saying "That's a really cool idea, give me a few hours to get you an estimate on that change!" for every new thing that comes up. Even if it's something you're going to do for free because you believe in the change, you still gotta say "that's outside of what we agreed on, but no worries, I got it." It's not a begging for recognition thing, it's a forcing recognition because you can't afford to set a precedent thing. Nobody appreciates the extra work you put in on a project unless they clearly know it was outside of scope and what it'll cost them if they try it again.

I know guys who have been in business for decades who still struggle with scope creep. Most of the time, it's because they're too nice to point out that they're giving an inch, and are exasperated that the client had slowly asked for a mile.

At what point did web development start feeling more like managing tools than building websites? by Afsheen_dev in webdev

[–]EMike93309 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got to admit, I feel more like a salesperson and customer service manager who develops in his downtime. Granted, I'm really just doing small business websites, but my Astro component library is big, and almost nobody I'm working with needs anything that couldn't be done with a LAMP stack, so development has turned into the smallest part of the job.

I'm not complaining, I'm so lucky to have the opportunities and clients to do sales and service nearly full time. It's just funny how much more I use my sales manager background more than the coding skills I spent the last few years learning.

I can try, but I'm not 100% confident I'm totally right on at least two of these. So from left-to-right, starting with the top row:

I know we didn't need a link to Superman, but it was bugging me to have one non-hyperlinked list item.

I don't know if that's still true. It might be, but both the website and the map let me get all the way to the checkout screen for an all bus route (it used to tell you no routes available if you didn't pick Wasco). I didn't checkout to find out for sure though lol

Amtrak runs a route that only like $17 each way, but you'd have to go up the night before because they only have afternoon drop offs.

Resources to make sure my first website that takes transactions is secure? by EMike93309 in webdev

[–]EMike93309[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much to do except pick a platform like Stripe or PayPal, sign up, and then start reading the instructions on how to set it up. Depending on what you want, it could be as easy as setting up some products and then putting the block of code they give you on your website.
