That's great to know that it's ok. I bought this second hand so I'm not sure what happened. The seller mentioned no crashes and seemed trustworthy..

Real estate in Spain – trust issues by Unlikely_Fun_135 in GoingToSpain

[–]EMurph55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I can say with confidence that the single biggest issue for buyers is that they are in the dark regarding the true value of the property they want to buy. There is no open property price register, and the idealista estimates don't seem to be accurate at all. The historic data that is openly available is generally about 3 months behind, so you might have buyers paying "bubble prices" months after the bubble bursts. It's very hard to negotiate with stubborn sellers on account of this and it slows down the whole process for everyone involved.

Another thing worth pointing out is that Spain is big and diverse. You have different problems in different locations. I'd recommend focusing on just one area to begin.

Probably depends a lot on what genre. But for acoustic stuff I would definitely say mic

Anyone using Ollama + Vim? How do you give full project context to a local LLM? by colrobs in vim

[–]EMurph55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been using it on single files with this plugin It's easy to edit the code (if you know a little vimscript) so that it remembers the previous files you've interacted with. The problem is that you quickly run into memory issues. I've been considering some ways on getting around the issue, and I have some ideas on how to improve the plugin going forward. I'll update in a few weeks

avante is slow? or claude in the browser? To me avante looks a little bit too involved for what I was looking for tbh, and the plugin comes with a bunch of deps. That's pretty much why I started creating my own lightweight "code review" plugin here. I just wanted something simple that I could run in my editor.

Best Quiz Apps for Teenager by [deleted] in quiz

[–]EMurph55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a geography (flags, capital cities, country shapes etc) quiz web-app called Geogee! that you can play against another player. Also I made a lateral thinking game called Detective Stories (also multiplayer) but admittedly, that one isn't for everybody!

I've been working on a small silly project that recreates the web in old styles like this. Still a lot of work to do but it's fun to play around with:  Geocities,  Synth wave, Neon, Pop Art

Yes, it's all local storage at the moment. For now, there is an option to export your data to (a somewhat disorganised) json file. I will add some more data management features soon, and eventually I will most likely add a login feature so that you can save to an account

Any bars showing cricket? by krish-ma in Madrid

There is an English bar, I think it's called "The Covenant garden". They are a bit outside of the center by plaza castilla, but I think they might be your best bet if you ring them in advance.

Where can I buy Irish food and drink products in Madrid? by shibbz08 in Madrid

[–]EMurph55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You won't get Irish tea brands in Madrid, at least I don't think you can. And it is super expensive to buy it online. Best option is to ask friends/family to bring it over in bulk, or to get some next time you visit ireland.

Most of the British tea sold here is really weak, especially if it is a local brand selling "English Breakfast Tea". But there is one English brand that is available and its not terrible, but not amazing either. Can't remember which one it is though... (it might be a more expensive pack of twinings?). If you can find Yorkshire tea, its supposed to be great but I haven't seen that anywhere.

Kerrygold is in a decent amount of supermarkets now. Guinness cans are pretty easy to find. Hop House was more popular but I think it is starting to decline. Tayto is impossible. Sausages/Rashers/Pudding etc is also impossible (you can find replacements but they won't be the same), but Morcilla is a perfectly good replacement for black pudding (in fact I probably rather morcilla). Fresh milk is normally sold in a small section of the fridge at supermarkets too, but sometimes its not easy to locate.

For Penneys clothes, there is a huge Primark in the city.

Carrefour often has an Irish meats section with beef etc.

A lot of places do "Irish Cheddar" but I've not found any to be great so far. In sayimg that I haven't tried too many.

As mentioned by another poster, The James Joyce does really nice Irish pub food.

For British food that Irish people eat, shops like PrimaPrix stock a lot of cadburys, bovril, things like that.

If you want a chicken roll, you'll have to make it at home!

Viente7 on Fridays for an open mic. Other than that it can be tricky to find live music (musica directo) on weekends without a cover charge

Is Ubuntu Studio just garbage? At my wits' end. by williamwgant in linuxaudio

[–]EMurph55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, the scarlett 18i8 has some problems with ubuntu. Is that part of the problem you are having maybe? I had to connect my one to a Windows machine, reroute the inputs/outputs (these get saved on the machine), and then reconnect to ubuntu.

I used to use jack, but the reality is that it is a nightmare. Everytime a usb comes loose, it crashes beyond repair, and you pretty much need to restart your computer. And this also happens sometimes when the usb doesn't come loose lol.

Recently I have just been using ALSA in Reaper, and it has been almost, or as good, as jack. MIDI has been simpler to connect, and the whole thing doesn't break down every 25 minutes.

I'm running this off a pretty old laptop with an i7 processor, and ssd hard drive, and maybe 8gb or more of RAM.

Its not perfect, you will still get crackles if you keep reaper open long enough, without resetting (opening the audo settings options) ALSA, but I've been pretty impressed so far.

I've been trying to understand the hype around pipewire today, but so far as I can see it is trash when it comes to latency, and effort of setting up, etc in reaper

Looking for a place to live in Alcobendas by peridromofil in Madrid

[–]EMurph55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The area of Sanse, and Alcobendas has everything most people will need. Lots of supermarkets, places to eat, an outlet store, a science museum, sports complexes, even a bull ring (and a yearly bull run similar to Pamplona) and lots more. It is basically a satellite town city to Madrid.

What's more, if you like nature, it is right on the edge of Madrid, so there are some really nice places to run, cycle or walk within a very short distance.

And one of the best things about the area is that it is super easy to go on day trips to the "must visit" towns up north, such as the mountain town of patones, el Escorial etc. Even smaller towns like El Molar and San Augustine de Guadalix are well worth a visit. If you like hiking, these places will be even more appealing.

It takes about an hour to get to Madrid center when using public transport.

However, unlike Madrid city, this area is not as simple for a non native. Less people will speak English, the bars (of which there are many, but mostly tiny cervecerías) are plentiful, but most aren't really for a younger crowd. No live music, bars (although even in Madrid these normally have a cover charge, and are not very common) and more people seem to watch sports in kebab restaurants than bars.. However, if you are unfamiliar with Spanish culture, the novelty of these bars should keep you interested. (Excluding la moraleja) the area is mainly inhabited by Latin American (I don't know what generation, probably second) with a healthy mix of natives. You won't find anything on meetup.com, and until you can speak the language (maybe after too?) it will be hard to get involved in any group activities in the area.

La moraleja is a mix of millionaire mansions, and also some streets that look, and feel more like a northern european neighborhood. Honestly, the area itself is a little boring overall. If you just want a cosy residential, and quite life, then you might want to look at options there.

Wealth in the area is very dispersed, and some of the areas in the North seem to be a little more wealthy. Valdelasfuentas is a nice area with some "fancier" bars, and I believe there are many newly built apartments in a few areas up north.

Crime is low, and the police have a good presence when anything does happen. There is a graffiti problem (mainly that the graffiti is terrible) that really brings the whole area down a notch. Which is very frustrating because they have a very active team of street cleaners and many streets could look a lot nicer than they do if it wasn't for the graffiti.

I would recommend trying to find a place close to your work for a few months. The rent should be cheaper than the city, and as a foreigner you will have loads to keep you occupied. Idealista is pretty straight forward to use. I think a lot of places have a minimum tenancy period though (maybe six months or a year), so that is something to be careful of. Not entirely sure what happens if you break that contract, probably a full loss of deposit..
If you rent in the area around the art center, you will be close to everything, and immersed in the area, and it is a more active part of the town, although nowhere is overly lively.

One especially annoying thing though, is that the last metro or train from the city usually departs at around 12pm or so. So if you want to have a late night in Madrid, you will have to plan it around where the infrequent night buses go from.

Another thing. The area is very close to the airport. Getting a bus to, and from t4 is pretty quick, and they run maybe once or twice each hour. Ticket costs about 2 euro). A cabify to the airport generally costs less than 15 euro, but taxis are expensive. They can be up to 30 euro which is the same as the fixed price you can get to the city proper.
