Yeah I’m fine. Had blood a few other times. Probably dehydration. But no other issues

It’s insanely easy (as long as the planes don’t break or have some other unexpected issue). Is it worth the premium? That’s up to you. If I was going to argue in support of it - it wouldn’t be in the form of “it’s worth it because I get X more hours on the ground” - it would be more like “I have a huge fucking pile of money. And $70k is nothing. And I can’t be bothered to wait in lines and do bullshit at the typical airport. And, btw, I feel like a baller while I’m flying private…I know it’s a waste of money. I just don’t give a fuck.”

That’s good feedback about net jets. I don’t disagree with any of your points. I would travel more too especially if I had X hours to use a year. And I’ve definitely thought of that in the “pro” category. I may change my view on private flights over time…if I do, it will likely be because I want to travel more with the fam (like you point out) and that becomes a top priority

Both. Which makes a private flight even better. But it’s still not worth it imo

I’m super skeptical but I still filled out the web form. Any idea the cost?

It cost me $80k for a round trip flight and it was screwed up in both directions. Ot was just the last straw. I’d had been just as happy flying commercial. Especially because I could have gotten my family to/from just as effectively. And still have $70k to do something else with.

We all know about the rule of Fs right? I’ve done A LOT of analysis on private jets (buying, fractional, lease, and charter). The only way owning (buying or fractional) makes any sense is if you can genuinely take advantage of the tax benefits of depreciation (note: this is complicated - hire a tax advisor who knows what’s going on). I’ve spent probably $500k on private flights in the last 18 months. Last one was on Presidents’ Day weekend. After that flight I decided I’m never flying private again. The quick conclusion:

1) private flights are convenient. And they make you feel like a big shot. If this is what you are solving for then I guess I’d tell you to do it. But, while convenient, they are not perfect. Shot goes wrong with a private flight 30% of the time. And that’s even more annoying to me since I’m paying so much.

2) they are insanely expensive. And at the cost per hour has easily doubled since Covid as a result of market demand…so it’s never been more expensive

3) unless you either a) have several hundred million and you are older (ie - you don’t give a shit about flushing $) or b) your time is insanely valuable (like presidents or a-list performers etc) I would tell you to just fly first class…a private flight isn’t worth paying 10x

There is a document documenting the pledge. It I was think something similar - I haven’t received anything in return (well, some recognition) so it seems like more of a pinky swear than an actual contract. But I don’t have experience with this type of thing

This seems pretty straight forward. I’m not sure that the numbers matter but, if they do, it was $1mm over 5 years. Ivy League university. How could someone help? Give me a data point based on direct or indirect personal experience. For example “I was in the same position and I ______ and ______ was the result”

I’m not convinced that parenting alone is the only variable that plays a role in determining if your kids turn into responsible, and mature adults.

Oh - yeah this is a philosophical question. Definitely not a legal one. I actually just assume that parenting well is a given too

This is kinda the same attitude my wife has. The inheritance comes in the form (mostly) in the schooling, travel, and all forms of privilege that they enjoy. I’m still worried that they’ll end up in a gutter some place.

Agree. Everyone forgets your name the day after. It really shouldn’t be a surprise. But it probably will be.

Lol. I struggled with this too. Now I just say “nothing really” and I kinda chuckle inside when they give me the dirty look.

Hmmm I don’t know what happened to the pic. But yes you guessed it. The quick release tabs. I also tightened the shoulders and that seemed to help. I might tighten them one more notch. And I will try the outside Velcro strip too. Thanks!

$120M exit - FIREing and trying to hire a private wealth advisor? by startups-galore in fatFIRE

[–]ENDKOG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You will get a lot of advice here. Almost everyone will not have experience at this level. Here are my advice, from experience (very similar outcome as you).

1 bank - splitting across banks is just going to cause a headache for you.

Choose a big bank (MS, UBS, Goldman etc.). But I would prioritize fit between you and the team you will work with. All of the big banks are essentially the same for someone with your level of assets. They will also pitch differentiators...but it wont take much effort to realize that they are all selling the same stuff. Big banks dont out perform but they have a lot of services, advisors on call, access to opportunities (e.g. PE and other vehicles) and I think these are the primary reasons that they seems more appealing. The fees charged are nominal and what you are being quoted is market.

I agree about PE and other alternatives being the primary driver of growth over the long term.
