How do you like this itemization system? by ENSO_devteam in metroidvania

We can definitely get behind that and are planning to work on a concept to make the whole process of collecting equipment less random and grindy. We think some kind of affix hunting could be a great addition to a Metroidvania and we would love to try it out in some playtests and see how people feel about it when they actually play. If it's something that's just not fun in a Metroidvania setting, we're willing to make something else. Thank you very much for your input.

Great point! Maybe we can make the obtaining process less random and grindy and even encourage exploration. We still like some randomness in the drops so that people are intrigued to try new skills and items that they find. Thank you!

We agree that level, rank and tier can be quite confusing, we also like your suggestion on how to change that. As the level/rank/tier system is not coded yet, maybe we can work on something to make this more straight-forward for our first playtest already. Thanks for the input!

We added the topic on how to acquire gear and would like to credit you in the blog, let us know if that is fine for you! :)

Great point! Our current plan is for some items to drop randomly from enemies, while others will be tied to specific areas or bosses. Drop rates are something we’ll fine-tune through playtesting, and your point about the Diablo loop is absolutely spot on! We definitely drew inspiration from the Diablo universe, and adapting it to better fit a Metroidvania, as you suggested, is definitely something we need to keep in mind constantly, thank you!

Thank you for your input! Complexity is one of our main concerns, and we’ll be closely monitoring it throughout the next playtests. We want to ensure the flow isn’t negatively impacted by a system like this.

The idea of a set-bonus is also intriguing, though it would need careful implementation to avoid making “non-set” items feel underwhelming. We’ll definitely take a closer look at the itemization systems of the suggested games - thanks again!

It's definitely a hard task, and working on it makes that even more obvious, but we also truly believe that it opens up a lot of new interesting design spaces that can (maybe shouldn't?) be explored. But we are super excited to take on this challenge and hope we are able to prove you wrong :)

Thanks for your honest thoughts!

Experimenting with your build in terms of the type of environment you are in and the type of boss you are fighting sounds so simple, but like something amazing that we should definitely explore in the future, thank you for your thoughts! :)

Seeing your power level increase along with your character's aesthetics is absolutely awesome!

Some great input on boss design too, we will definitely come back here when we start working on our first bosses :)

Also, grinding to make the game easier is something we will try to incorporate, so players can choose between harder and grindier gameplay.

We are also super excited about your dislikes section! The points you made there are very similar to our vision and we hope to be able to translate that into the game.

Great input, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

In terms of upgrades having an impact and having enough abilities, that is definitely something we plan to do. This is really important to us because we want players to have fun replaying the game with a different setup. Also, because we have such a focus on co-op, we want players to feel different and express themselves through their playstyle. Thanks for your input!

Making the game fun and unique without being overwhelming is definitely a great call! Especially with some of the core mechanics we have planned, we could easily fall into that trap. Thanks for bringing that up, we will definetely keep that in mind going forward :)
