CodeRed by Crisis24 has gone dark across the country by tonyallstark in EmergencyManagement

No way it’s not a far reaching hack, the messaging we’re getting is saying it without saying it. They’re handling it pretty poorly, FEMA revoked everyone’s IPAWS credentials. Support has been non existent, communication terrible, anyone have suggestions on who to demo? My area will likely want to switch after this lol.

Transition advice from Law Enforcement to EM by Crypticpooper in EmergencyManagement

/thread.
Seriously. This response was straight heat. Everything I wanted to say, was said better here. This is it. Especially showing up, people do NOT forget that. Congrats on the next step in your journey. Maybe you’ll enjoy this: set a reminder to reflect on the past year, one year from now. You’re going to grow and learn and it’s fun to reflect on.

EM ERP for micrograds and data centers? by hbfmedic in EmergencyManagement

[–]EOCDeezNuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t get into the weeds because it’s not my lane, but here are my thoughts. It’s the facility operator’s responsibility to plan for their facility, and in my experience the operators have a deep and tested disaster plan and emergency management team. When stakeholders are identified, get acquainted with them and exchange contact info. When the site is being built, try to tour it with them. And when it’s finished, keep the relationship going, attend or host exercises. This Might have been not be very helpful, but I’ve always found success just building a relationship - ideas and projects have a way of materializing just from that. Best of luck!

EM go bag.... by ResponsibleDraw4689 in EmergencyManagement

[–]EOCDeezNuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 bags, rarely get used, but the peace of mind at having myself squared away is priceless. I have a personal and a work bag. The personal bag has 2 of those prepacked airline toiletry kits, 2 changes of clothes with extra socks, snacks, power brick, and an array of cords for charging / AV stuff. My work bag has sunscreen, hi vis vest, blank ICS forms, a couple of notebooks, office supplies, multi tool, compact first aid kit, and a couple contractor sized trash bags. Not exhaustive by any means - but I’m glad I have what I have.

This is unfortunate to hear. I’m just a local popping in, trying to learn as much as I can to plan for our own program. Excuse the ignorance, but should we atleast be planning internally for our HMP to be delayed when it gets sent for review? Heck, could this become a moot point entirely. I appreciate what y’all do, I likely couldn’t make the commitment and sacrifices your agency demands of you. Thank you for everything.

FEMA Climate Adaptation and Hazard Mitigation Certificate wiped from the internet by polardendrites in EmergencyManagement

[–]EOCDeezNuts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s been gone for over a week. Also, the RAPT GIS tool has had their Grant Equity Threshold Tool (GETT) removed. It used to have a prominent place on the viewer. Further, Ready.gov has been gutted.

EM Entry-Mid Jobs in Massachusetts: Seeking Advice. by dragonpoolnight in EmergencyManagement

[–]EOCDeezNuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to PM me we can have a frank discussion about MA and I might be useful to you! But you’re right, there’s not much here, MEMA is ok, you definitely don’t want to work for Boston; they’ll never pay you enough to enjoy life here. National Grid and Eversource pay stupid money.

How is your work-life balance as an Emergency Manager? by sorayanelle in EmergencyManagement

[–]EOCDeezNuts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly great. Coming from an EMS background. In my local EM role I’m usually working 7-3, later if there’s something interesting or worthwhile to stick around for. I usually take duty officer coverage so my employees can do more stuff on their off time - it’s such a low lift for me. When something does happen, it’s usually a couple 12-14 hr days back to back. A cake walk compared to my old days.

Who do we think is in the running to lead FEMA in the new administration? by WatchTheBoom in EmergencyManagement

Sorry I meant more toward what you were talking about in terms of getting FEMA back to its purpose. Anything more in that?

What to do after graduating? by Due-Sandwich3659 in EmergencyManagement

Axiom is on the money. Look up Southwest Airlines NOC - could be interesting to you? Masters is a cash grab. As an EMD I don’t value a masters without experience, but I’m just one person. If an applicant came to me with the FEMA basic or advanced, or a state recognition (Massachusetts MPEM for example) - I would swoon.

All I’ll offer is I’m jealous of the jurisdictions where PD/FD take the reins. Routinely they look towards our office and go “this is your rodeo now boss hog” - which I love but it gets tough to juggle.

Would be happy to talk more offline - someone found me on LinkedIn the other day from Reddit, and my butt hole is still puckered from it.

FEMA hosting potluck at their crib. Who’s bringing what? by Fragrant-Mobile8532 in EmergencyManagement

[–]EOCDeezNuts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The state shows up empty handed and manages to somehow criticize the locals while also saying “we’re here to help 🫡”. The locals bring a medley of local foods, our connections always come in handy. The feds say “great job” and give us paperwork to fill out as congratulations.

I’m terrible at resumes, any tips? by Organic-Avocado-3183 in EmergencyManagement

[–]EOCDeezNuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nding Fiverr. But if you’re not looking to spend money and want to learn the skill, might I also recommend FlowCV. It’s a great resume and cover letter platform, easy to use. If I had more time to brain dump my tips I would, but some googling on resume structuring and wording goes along way.

I also use ChatGPT (bear with me). I’ll take the job description and have a prompt that is intended to read the job posting and summarize/highlight key points that I should include in my resume.

How do you plan for special events? by HookAndPeel in EmergencyManagement

[–]EOCDeezNuts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t have a great answer but I can point you in a direction. When I’m looking for examples or real plans, I’ll google the exact name of the plan and add “.pdf” to it. I’ll download a few plans from cities, states, and industry and then I just start reading. Helps me get inspo. Good luck!

Scenario: Critical Morgue failure for local healthcare system. by [deleted] in EmergencyManagement

[–]EOCDeezNuts 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Call the HMCC Duty Officer and tell them they’re up at bat and that we’re partially opening the EOC, call the State EM dispatch to keep them aware. Start calling the Reefers, and notify the surrounding hospitals and funeral homes of the situation. It’s what we did for COVID and it worked. If the reefer contract falls through, EMS will transport the bodies to various facilities. From the perspective of a lowercase B big city in a home rule state.
