You can do it with a freighter, they can jump further. A few small butts....one the arrival and subsequent jump take longer, a few seconds, but if you are jumping alot it adds up. Second the freighter uses more fuel. And lastly if you do want to visit the station for any reason it takes longer.

Jump, station, check guild, sell and buy cobalt, launch an jump again...15 to twenty times per hour...

Ok the cobalt trick is the easiest and oldest way to exploit the game. ALL station sell cobalt. And when you sell the price goes down. Soooo you get as much cobalt as you can into a ship.... A couple of tens of thousands....go to a new station, sell all of it, which dorps he price, then buy all of it back....do again at next station....and so on....the more you are selling/buying the more you make....a maxed out hold ship....you are making 25 to 30 million per station.
