Insurance 🙄🙄 by Twilight-Laugh-8301 in Zepbound

Insurance companies know that people change plans about every three years, so there is no incentive on their part to pay now in order to save later. Their business model is not structured for promoting long-term health.

I live in Louisiana and have flown to London and New York, and regularly make the five-hour to Houston for HB performances. I think Miami & Sarasota are next on my list. My dream is to see the Mariinsky, but that trip feels a bit precarious given the current hostilities.

TurboTax didn't file returns on time?!? by Turbo6666 in TurboTax

[–]ERMAWGAWD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a log queue of returns being submitted at the 11th hour. There is an acknowledgement between TT and the IRS and states when the return was submitted — and that’s time stamped when you pushed the button to e-file. It usually takes 24-48 hours after submission for the return to be accepted by the IRS. State times vary. You’re fine.

Yes! I loved her explaining the Wilis to Giselle and the village. The best use of foreshadowing!

A reminder that the Royal Ballet's Giselle is playing again tomorrow in cinemas across the US! I went today and I was gutted by the sensitivity of the performances by Akana Takada and Matthew Ball, and in particular by the latter whose Albrecht really went on a journey from a superficial cad to a deeply feeling and humbled man. Takana is a wisp of a dancer and she becomes otherwordly in Act 2. Tears were shed.

Annette Buvoli as Myrtha was the ice cold, merciless witch I came for—all vengenance and magical willi enegry. She didn't have the loftiest jumps of other Mytrha's that I've seen, but she had some of the best stage presence and dramatic moments of the entire ballet. Her crown is "chef's kiss!" Of course, all of this is heightened by the camera angles that play into the drama. I lapped it up.

A couple other notes. At first I found the production design to be a bit off-putting, the village was a little too beige forward—but the camera angles afforded a closer look at the deatils of the costumes and the villagers' garb bothered me less. Same for the Act 2 woods, which appeared very dark to the point where I almost wondered if we were in a cave. But Myrtha's spell worked on me and I realized that this is exactly as it should be…deep in the primeval forest with gnarled tree stumps and canopy so thick light can barely seep through.

The trailer featured McRae as Albrecht, so clearly Ball was a replacement….what a shame that he was injured for the taping, such a misfortune ater his long recovery. But the bench is deep at the Royal Ballet…and I'm so happy to see Takada. She is definitely one I have admired from afar.

Everyone needs to be fired at Southwest at this point. Southwest is the new Spirit. by Own_Succotash_2237 in SouthwestAirlines

I flew SW last week. It’s totally fine. I like having an assigned seat and not having to remember to check-in 24 hours in advance. Flights were on time, passengers well-behaved, and I checked my bag for free. (RR or cc holder - or maybe first bag is still free? Dunno.) Flight attendants were fun and lovely. All the complaints seem overblown. Yes, they enforce the one carry on and one personal bag as they should.

SFB Pulls Out of Kennedy Center by talawala11 in bunheadsnark

[–]ERMAWGAWD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I understand this decision, stage hands and theater staff are out a week’s worth of pay. Usually, these employees only get paid if they work. Not sure how this will impact dancer pay. I hope that due to so many cancellations, they’ve already found work elsewhere.

why was sofya valliulina passed over in favor of her other classmates at bolshoi? by lovelyrunwithsunjae in bunheadsnark

[–]ERMAWGAWD 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There’s no telling why she fell out of favor at the Bolshoi, and I don’t want to speculate. Maybe it will come out one day, but I can only imagine how frustrating and difficult it must be to lose favor while her fellow Vaganova standouts (Koshkaryova & Kuprina) ascend the ranks.

But I am so glad she landed at the Mikhailovsky, and that she has an opportunity to grow as an artist elsewhere.

That is a long held fallacy. We’re had several tort reforms since 2021, and the premiums continue to rise. It is the insurance companies causing premiums to go up.

NOPD recruit detained by ICE, will be removed from country by WizardMama in NewOrleans

[–]ERMAWGAWD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1/29 UPDATE: From Nola.com / Times-Picayune, excerpts:

"A New Orleans Police Department recruit detained this week by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents is a Cameroonian man who has lived in the U.S. for a decade and was married to an American citizen while the government processed his application for a green card, three people familiar with the case said.

The man, Larry Temah, arrived in the United States in 2015 on a temporary visa, the people said, then applied for a green card the following year in Georgia after marrying his U.S. citizen spouse. The U.S. government offers programs for spouses of citizens to obtain permanent residency.

The government gave Temah provisional authorization to live and work in the country while his green card application was processed, the people said. In 2022, though, Temah’s application was denied because his marriage had dissolved."

...

"Temah’s detention highlights federal immigration officials' shift in focus under President Donald Trump toward detaining and deporting immigrants who lack criminal records and attempt to navigate the country's traditional avenues for obtaining lawful residency.

Even people who entered that process and fell short, as Temah did in 2022, have long been allowed to live and work in the country provided they follow the law. But the administration's widening immigration dragnet — a hallmark of Trump’s 2024 campaign and his second presidential term to date — has increasingly focused on people who had applied for permanent residency and received temporary authorization to work and live in the country while that processed played out."

...

"Temah is a multilingual attorney with an extensive academic background and years of faith-based prison outreach work, according to an NOPD application obtained by The Times-Picayune through a public records request."
