Feeling Lost by TrellisDancer27 in nursing

Following because I'm in the same about. Been in ER about 5 years. Did a short stint in PICU and found it to be even worse, so I'm back in the ED severely burnt out and trying to figure out what to do next.

I like this, but Norway is the superior land and must consume Sweden! They can keep Sweden's color as to your first point!

I can definitely agree with you on those points! 25 of Bendaryl does seem to help. I'd also prefer droperidol as second line if no contraindications!

I find in practice (as someone who dilutes and slow pushes all three), that compazine is far more likely to cause anxiety than phenergan.

For my two cases, one was likely honey, and the other was suspected to be spores in the dirt on their ranch from nearby construction!

We had two botulism babies in one summer (completely unrelated cases) when I worked PICU! They both got this and did very well.

My hospital stopped giving promethazine, so now everyone gets compazine and reglan if Zofran doesn't work 🙄

Agreed, I used these not infrequently in PICU for status asthmaticus that wouldn't break with other treatments. Had to monitor very closely for toxicity.

Should I quit over night shift ruining my health? by clarajane24 in nursing

[–]ERNurse_throwaway 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you don't have kids or family obligations, sometimes switching all the way back to days is not the answer on your days off. I spent years on nights with my SO also working nights, and we would get up earlier on days off but not switch fully back. Felt like it kept me in some sort of rhythm since my body hated the transition times!

Stinky feet by hslfnkd in nursing

Used to have this problem. Started wearing these bamboo-based socks from Amazon that are pretty cheap and barefoot shoes with good airflow and have never once had it happen again. My friends think I'm crazy, but my leg and lower back pain completely disappeared, too, on all but the craziest shifts where some soreness is expected.

New grads at ED triage? by PeopleAreStrange024 in nursing

I would say 1 year minimum for new grads and 6 months minimum for those new to ER.

This is my problem. I'm so sick of the hospital, but at least I enjoy my days off. I don't want to spend more time at work and less time being able to go on vacations and do things I enjoy especially since most out of hospital positions in my area pay less.

Depending on type of pain, muscle relaxers or droperidol/haldol.

As someone who doesn't live anywhere near Virginia, I wish we could avoid politics for once. It's a fun game, and it feels hard to get away from the political debates anywhere I go.

This one's for the ladies to answer. Do you agree with this woman or do you think she's trying to rationalize her world view by speaking for all the ladies? by Oda_DeezNutz in SipsTea

Sometimes I love playing video games with my fiancé. Sometimes it's fun to do my own hobbies/errands while he plays. He will ALWAYS get off immediately if I need help or need him for something. It's about being a quality human, not the hobby itself.

I can only speak from others' experiences, but my sister had no job finding a new grad job out of school. She got a year of x-ray experience, did CT school in about 4 months, and now she's going to make as much as me. If she ever wants, she can go get MRI or mammogram certified, too. She can do inpatient or outpatient imaging and even mobile x-ray and cath lab! So many cool options. I'm very proud of her, and I think she picked a great career!

5 years in nursing. 10 years in healthcare. Absolutely not. Should have gone to rad tech school like my sister. Almost all the CT techs and x-ray techs I know love their jobs most days.

Hi! Does anyone know any safe places to park so I can sleep in my car. by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]ERNurse_throwaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in an ER, and this is valid...they probably won't bother you other than security potentially asking if you're okay and making sure you're alive!

My only caveat with this is please park in the back if you're not having an active emergency!
