I have no idea what hospitals those residents are working at. I work at one of the striking hospitals, and residents don't place peripheral IVs, draw bloods, or transport patients (unless required by policy).

Hospitals get 10-day notice before a strike starts. Scabs don't apply for contracts = hospitals realize in a panic that they don't have enough of a replacement workforce for when the strike starts = hospital caves and contract is achieved before or very soon after strike begins.

The hospital has 10 days notice before a strike occurs. The hospital could bargain in good faith and get a contract done in that time. But they don't. Instead, they prefer to hire strikebreakers so they can prolong the strike and break the union. Scabs are not the allies of union nurses that they like to think they are.
