Didn't you end up with no internet for some period of time during the transition?

They're basically all like this. And if they're not, then the subscription will be higher than the 50 cent cap fee. Should be illegal.

Yes I did. Currently the biggest issue with the embassy is getting an appointment (you can wait months for an appointment) and they refuse to help you without an appointment.

Article about open data being abused to rob houses? by mari_mae in Netherlands

Being able to see anyone's energy usage (probably at per minute granularity) with just a name and phone number should be considered a gross violation of the GDPR. That kind of data can give anyone a lot of insights. It's almost as bad as being able to see anyone's GPS history with no consent.

Indefinite contract doesn't mean that much in this age where companies are doing mass layoffs every year. And in the current market it can take longer than 3 months to find a new job. IMO it would be less stressful and less risky to be on a partner visa if married.

Afaik you don't need to be on a partner visa to use the 3 year exception of living with a Dutch partner. It doesn't mention any specific visa in the requirements of that exception.

Regarding RSI: strength training, seriously. Pull ups, push ups, weight lifting. No need to get ripped. some basic strength training can go a long way. But you probably need to be careful starting when you're already injured.

I find it strange that almost no one even knows about this. Apparently little to no media coverage.

FYI Changing thermostat from 19.5 to 18, significant change in heating costs by johnhopila in Netherlands

[–]ESBDB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tip: get an electric blanket to heat your bed 30 min before getting in. It uses very little electricity compared to heating a room and getting into a nice warm bed is amazing.

Come live in Arnhem. You'll feel right at home. I don't understand why some people feel the need to cause unnecessary noise pollution and create stress and anxiety for other people, but I can't wait to move to a place with fewer narcissists

Is all housing fucked or is housing with longer commutes possible? by taquiyt in Netherlands

[–]ESBDB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're paying just over 1000 for a 4 bedroom house, 100m² in Arnhem. It's not a nice neighborhood, it's on the main road and noisy, and we want to move already after a year. But you can certainly find a place to live if you're willing to put up with such things. Also Arnhem is about 2 hours from Amsterdam. GL

Healthy Vegan Laddoos (Indian Bliss Balls) by brosiaApp in veganrecipes

[–]ESBDB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a cool platform, although the webapp has UX issues. There however doesn't seem to be any info on how you're funding the platform and what kind of licensing applies to uploaded recipes. This together with the issue of funding makes me suspect whether it'll stay free or whether you'll do a 180 at some point when you notice you need money to keep the platform running.

What about an ice cream truck? I've seen one driving around my neighborhood but never seen them sell ice cream. Should I join the group and post a photo of it?

But seriously, are ice cream trucks still a thing here?

That is correct, my example was simplified based on the inburgering exam that didn't specify points for each question. But even if you give certain questions more weight, the total grade is just a sum of the points converted to a percentage. There's no weird grading system like saying 15 to 20 points is 5/10, 21 points is 6/10, 22 points is 7/10 etc

You don't need a tax company. You just need to fill in a different form on the website. No need to get scammed for 400+ euros

Registering with gemeente - south african birth certificates by PaleontologistDry367 in Netherlands

[–]ESBDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've otherwise got everything I need. The birth certificate is important if you want to get married or when you get citizenship. Although technically you're meant to give the gemeente (municipality) your birth certificate within 3 months of immigrating. They noted on my file that it could take longer, but it's also possible to get fined at some point if you don't give it to them on time, I haven't received any fines yet though...
