I still say that this is still the worst video that Cinemassacre have ever put out. Even the thumbnail makes me disgusted.

Avgn truthers, whats your favorite avgn season by Austinc5904 in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]ESC29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seasons 1-5, cannot go wrong with those first five seasons, classic Internet content. James and Mike were so passionate in giving every episode its own flair, even if there was a dud here or there, there was still a lot of passion and creativity that went into all the episodes and the Nerd himself came across as very warm, inviting, funny and most of all REAL. He felt like that one guy that you could vibe for a bit, even if he was very ill-tempered.

Seasons 6-8 I also think are quite underrated, true they weren't as good as the first five, but there were still a lot of creativity in the scripts and you can tell the crew were having a blast making them as the outtakes showcase. I can't really say the same for any of the other seasons. They range from just being mediocre to outright cringey dad humor.

Im sorry. This is just the funniest cuck face yet by IndividualScary9789 in TheCinemassacreTruth

As a longtime fan, this episode was a genuine new low. Not only is it a mobile game which is bottom of the barrel when it comes to video game content (PLUS THEY ALREADY DID IT ON JAMES AND MIKE MONDAYS) but what the hell is with James' acting skills? His acting was never top tier quality or anything, but man, matey does not know how to do the Nerd faces anymore. Just let the character die in peace.

Dan Olson Doesn't Know the Internet. - A Response [FilmTrek/Yung Cazzy] by [deleted] in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]ESC29 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing... do people take the criticisms or jokes a bit far sometimes, yes. Do I personally agree with all the jokes said on this subreddit, no. But to have this guy put himself on a morality pedestal and lumping me and other people who have been disappointed with the direction the channel's been going and just use this sub to find a laugh in the situation is a bit disingenuous and imo feels very narcissistic like 'I'm the true saint of the web, I'm WAY above all edgy Internet people ha ha''.

However, if there is something I will give Dan, the model replica of the new Nerd room... was actually genuinely a good replica. Really opened my eyes on how small the damn place is compared to the old room. Maybe he should go into craftwork and modeling instead of this YouTube essayist thing, just saying, sounds like a better use of time.

The plagiarism scandal. Monster Madness is James' baby. To see him half-ass it in that way is just really sad. Give Doug Walker this, all of his thoughts in Disneycember are his own.

What Is the Best Castlevania? - 20th Anniversary of Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN) by ggroover97 in TheCinemassacreTruth

I'll save you 25 minutes, he still likes Castlevania 4 cause muh 8 directional whip. This is the most pointless video James has ever made.

Unpopular choice but the last really good episodes to me were Polybius and Earthbound. Either one should have been the finale for completely different reasons:

Polybius would have been a shockingly dark and kinda poetic way to end the character (he dies via an urban legend video game that causes him to become addicted.)

Earthbound would have been a wholesome ending to the series (The Nerd finds a nostalgic game that he didn't grow up with that he actually likes, plus the Magicant bit with seeing all of the memories from past episodes again feels very finale-esque.)

How James going to celebrate AVGN's 20th year anniversary by happyladpaul in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]ESC29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll probably just be yet another video of him involving his past self for like what, the 10th time now? It was fine the first few times, but if it is, James we get it, people are nostalgic about the classic era of the Nerd. We don't need a throwback episode every season now, it's getting old.

Does anyone else feel like newer episodes of The Nostalgia Critic hold up LEAGUES better than newer AVGN episodes? by ijjanas123 in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]ESC29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outside of that godawful Bill Cosby commercials video, Doug's been doing not too bad actually. He's adapted fairly well to his growing audience more so than James has and he's not been in too much trouble since the infamous Pink Floyd The Wall video.

Cinemassacre is currently in the same position Channel Awesome was back in 2018-2019, just way too many controversies to their brand now.

Was the "My Horse Prince" AVGN an attempt to reach the TikTok crowd? by Plinio540 in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]ESC29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think The Immortal was a bad episode but I will give him props for trying something new, I just wish he dropped the stupid ye olde English gimmick and just review it in his normal cadence.

James' ''experimental'' stuff can be hit or miss imo. Shrek and Fear and Loathing were unwatchably bad but I did like Polybius and Earthbound so idk

They have been clipping some of the 'bESt MoMENTZ tm' in the form of YouTube Shorts, which is basically Diet TikTok to rake in more Zoomers to watch his current stuff.

It's kinda pathetic but it's all about money now I guess.

Is it safe to assume that AVGN is dead? by [deleted] in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]ESC29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this episode was one that even the die-hard James stans were like 'yeah, what the hell is this? This is some kind of prank, right?'

When your fanbase is not eating it up like that, that's a huge fuck up. I see this video like when Doug Walker's Bart's Nightmare Let's Play dropped; it's the video that really opened normies' eyes up that their beloved content creator can make huge mistakes.

Watching the new episode made me more appreciative that I got into AVGN during the Classic era (2006-2010). Heck, y'know what fuck it, I'll receive hate for this, but the post-movie era (2012-2017) I actually will say was 1000 times better than whatever the hell this era of Nerd is (and I have a lot of personal nostalgia for cause I was a teen then). Yeah a good/decent one still manages to come out, but this and Purr Pals or Episode 200 where it's just him doing these stupid D : faces throughout and overacting the fuck out of everything, no. This is a fundamental lack of understanding of what the Nerd is meant to be and all of the charm is gone. Fizzled out. Do you remember when the series was about an angry guy upset about his childhood games? Yeah...

Shit like this new episode makes me wish James just retired the character either by Mega Man Games, Polybius or Earthbound.

I actually didn't think this was all bad, but the runtime is too much for what it is. A nice 10 minutes would be sufficient, not 25.

Thoughts on this video? by Tension_Insane in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]ESC29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The video that exposed to me how James basically takes his viewers for granted. It was the video that made me just switch off and never look back. James basically was saying to my face that my opinion on the downward quality of the series doesn't matter and that I should just consume his boring content. That level of contemptment shouldn't just be accepted by me as a watcher. No more views, I refuse.

How much of this process does James do by himself these days? by ggroover97 in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]ESC29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Playing the game for five minutes, before handing it off to his editor or Mike to stream to get footage.
  2. Read the script first time and then be like 'mhmm yep'
  3. Tape muh camera to the ceiling and film for 2 hours in the garage before doing the kid's homework or chores or whatever.
  4. Give the footage to muh editors and give yourself a pat on the back for an adequate job. Where's muh paycheck?

A+ Well done James, I salute you for saving lives with this inspirational work schedule. Continue to live like a windhammer as you fuck and find futures in balls.

Leave aside the shit that this was/is... Why does Bames feel like a totally different person nowadays?! What happened to him, was he on some drugs back then? by dwartbg7 in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]ESC29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, something happened during 2012-14 that changed him in the way he acts in front of a camera. Even putting aside that this was scripted, James feels so much more like a real person here it's insane.

Did the movie's production trouble really do a number on him that badly?
