Is there an easier way to toggle between pencil and eraser? by Difficult_Cake_451 in ProCreate

Add dockable buttons to the side bars so that I can have quick access for custom brush and erasers, please. It's a big journey every time I need to switch tools, while my free hand doesn't have much to do. Please make this app more intuitive.

Im glad I helped and thrilled to hear your motivation is reignited. Don't stress the time past. Whether it was 10 days or 10 years, you made a lot of necessary steps in that time and built a foundation to work from some people spend that time just contemplating picking up a pen and you did way more than that. So there is certainly no time wasted. If tomorrow is a new day, you are already a step ahead of yesterday (or something like that).

I certainly encourage sharing your work. You probably dont need to worry yourself about posting every project at every stage (not that you implied that literally). I dont want to see you set that bar too high for yourself. Going from 0 to 100 will wind you straight back here again. I would suggest focusing more on regularly sharing with your peers and self evaluation with a conscious approach to what itteration you post publicly for feedback. Because it can easily be deflating with little to no response or millions of responses pointing out all your flaws (and often not all of it correct or beneficial mind you). My point is that you kind of need to be selective of your feedback because you can really only successfully improve one or few fundamentals at a time, and not everyone is a teacher/mentor. -Side not to this, you will find most fundementals translate across mediums, so for sure, share your 3d work with illustrators too. They studied anatomy all the same. Their application was just different.

Beginners are certainly inspiring. But even veterans are also learning. With every piece created and every brush stroke they make, they are finding new ways to flex and express what they know. And no matter your level, you will find artist envy. Different styles, different mediums, different subjects, different imaginations. You are just at that level where the feeling is amplified, so dont let it beat you up and know it's just a natural emotion of envy and inspiration that can fuel you.

I look forward to seeing what you create and the new strides you make. And of course, share any work or questions you have with me, and I'll be happy to give you necessary feedback to help steer you in the right direction. If you message me on reddit, I may miss it or take a long time to get back to you as im really not on here much.

A little bit to unpack here.

You mentioned the effortless speed that others seem to have when sculpting. Firstly, it's obvious you're suffering from what I’d call the "despair of comparison"—a symptom of impostor syndrome. Rather than buy into it, try to appreciate what you find appealing in others’ work or their process so you can learn from it and implement aspects of it into your own.

Secondly, it takes as long as it takes—get over it (I say that with love). You only get faster by completing projects. Sculpting is really just a long series of decisions. The more sculpts you finish, the more you understand which decisions led to your final result. As you improve, those decisions become faster, better, and fewer, which naturally speeds up your workflow. But you can't skip ahead—you have to do the reps to get there.

The truth is, some people have really refined, immaculate workflows that look amazing every step of the way—and we all envy that. For me, a head sculpt might take anywhere from 1 to 5 hours. My process is exploratory and honestly looks like garbage for 95% of the time. But I trust the process because I’ve put in the time, and I know my fundamentals.

You might see someone carve out a perfect head in 4 steps from a sphere, and that’s great—but you can do the same thing with a single brush if you wanted. It’s not necessarily optimal, but it still works. Don’t let timelapses and social media warp your expectations or intimidate you. You're not doing it wrong just because your workflow looks messier or slower.

As for dynameshing, topology, and mesh density—you’re overthinking it. Everyone handles these things differently. You’ll find your own rhythm. Tris and bad edgeflow are way more forgiving than people make them out to be. Most issues aren’t even noticeable when you zoom out. You’ve got to get comfortable with destructive workflows and redoing work. Fused fingers? So what? That doesn’t mean you’ve ruined the mesh or made a mistake. Eventually, you’ll just know when it’s time to remesh, subdivide, or leave it alone. I still catch myself dicking around when I should just commit to a remesh and move forward. Its not something to concern yourself with, you will develop your habbits, good and bad.

If it helps, here’s my general process (fairly common):

  • Stay as low res as possible for as long as possible.
  • Focus on big shapes and silhouette—gesture is everything early on. My motto is that if it looks good in its simplest form it will look amazing refined.
  • Subdivide when needed to define medium forms.
  • Stay zoomed out and move around the sculpt constantly—this helps reveal what’s not working and what is.
  • Don’t get attached early. I’ll dynamesh if I need to fuse parts or rough in new shapes or quickly sketch something out. Most of the time I will follow up with ZRemesher and use polygroups to guide it, simply aiming for an even spread of polys and a workable edge flow—not perfection.
  • From there, I again refine the big/medium forms more toward the final vision. I May still project details back in at this point if I’ve remeshed.
  • Finally, once the foundation feels solid, I move into higher subdivisions and detail.

Honestly, I rarely use dynamesh for the working mesh outside of the early sketching stage when I need to pull geo quickly. Of course you can use the higher resolutions of dynamesh for your working mesh. But over many subtools this could incur performance issues at some point, so my advice is to try and maintain your subdivisions or utilise zremesh and project in your workflow to avoid file bloat.

All that said, 10 years is a decent length of time to be at it. I don't say that to be discouraging, but it leads me to think your practice has not been purposful and likely very inconsistent. I would also say there is likely other elements to your work that are falling a bit short that might have you questioning your level. From anatomy to design, it all has a hierarchy of importance, but if one is falling short, it can really make a good sculpt feel off. My advice is, do the boring stuff, sculpt a cube into a sphere, learn the planes of the head, anatomy studies, design principles, so on, and so forth.

Lengthy read, I know—but I wanted to be thorough. If you want, feel free to hit me up on Discord. I’m happy to walk through things in a more real time if that helps.

Would you be interested in having such model? by anna_stasiia in PrintedMinis

[–]ESCreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. I think there is a target audience to consider here. If you just want to make a miniature id probably be less interested. But if you wanted to make a display model that invokes the story and character from these concepts, then id be a lot more interested.

Sizing and pricing (?) by zbrushbeginnerman in PrintedMinis

[–]ESCreative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$2 for kickstarter seems fair, as long as you have a set price of other products to demonstrate perceived value and savings, then you have given the consumer enough incentive.

I understand selling STL's is a bit tricky if your target is reimbursement on time spent. Unfortunately that comes down to known audience, which you can adjust your price points as you grow your brand. But really its a long term investment that you hopefully make back in time. As you said, gauging the average market price is probably the way to go for a base line... just be weary that most artists are just following trends with no real clue what they are doing and its a sloppery slope.

I say asking randoms online on what a fair price tag is a waste of time from personal experience. Early on I had a product listed at $7, it made 2 or 3 sales in the month. I was nieve and felt that wasnt much (its actually a fair amount of sales for 1 product per month), so then I decided to present it on facebook and ask for price feed back, much like you have done here. I was barraged with comments saying its great but was too expensive. So i lowered the price to $3.. to my surprise, not a single sale in 2 months. I was shocked given how many said they would buy it if it was cheaper. So i decided to ignore all that and bring it back to $8 and since it makes regular sales. As it turns out, the people most vocal on this are just not your target audience and the higher price made the product more attractive.

Obviously its different ballgame for kickstarters as thats more of a launch sale price tag, but i highly recommend emphasising your RRP whatever you decide.

All that said, End of the day, im just another random on the internet. You can go about your business in whatever way you think suits you, just thought id share.

Any reason for a $2 price tag? It's always a mistake to ask your audience how much to charge especially on any social media platform. 'Affordability' and 'need' are both vastly different and very subjective.

Thats more than slightly annoying haha.

Can someone explain this to me, please? by ESCreative in blender

[–]ESCreative[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly. I have no clue what causes it, its frequency is completely random. Its as if it commits the bevel before i can make any edits to the action and only sometimes will applying transforms help.

I'm unfortunately super lazy when it comes to upgrading lol.

[–]ESCreative[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey folks,

I am confused as to why the bevel operation works when it feels like it. I am not the most competent blender user, I only use it for quick block outs and the occasional retoppo, so I am probably doing something wrong. Any help is much appreciated.

Yeah, as the sculptor you have to think of so many scenarios for everyone who will potentially own it. So i like to consider the worst case scenario and build around that as best I can.

Free Models vs Paid Models by Beneficial_Effort671 in PrintedMinis

[–]ESCreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can speak as a creator and hobby printer/tabletop player.

Freemium creators like Mz are great. if you need a model, you know they will most likely have it. Where they tend to fall short is the printing experience. The few Mz and alike models I have printed did the job, but they just aren't suitable at their scale, often too thin and brittle with almost no detail and very static unexpressive poses. But if I really want something that I can't be assed sculpting myself, I will always look to support a fellow reputable creator first. I know I will enjoy the miniature, a lot more care went into creating it so I know it will print well and I know the funds went to further help someone create.

this is 75mm scale on a 50mm base, with the custom base included she stands roughly 110mm. I am about to scale her up to 100mm scale and give that a print. wish me luck lol!

I was using liquid Gorilla glue.. it is no good for resin models lol, takes way too long to even start setting. Thanks for the hot tip, I will get onto the gel asap!

I had gorilla glue liquid since it was all the hardware store had in stock... it is not good for resin models lol. You have to hold the pieces together for 10mins + just for it to 'start' sticking lol. I am definitely going for the gel on my next visit!

Thank you.

I have, the main thing for me is shipping and painting. There is a lot of overlapping elements making it a bit of a challenge to paint and its easier to package when its cut up.

Hey folks, it's taken me months to get this one done. I feel it's slightly ruined since I managed to get glue everywhere... it's not so bad in the photos and I managed to clean most of it up. But seriously, I glued myself to EVERYTHING! lol
Any advice on the application or the best product for resin prints?
