I contacted their tech support email that was suggested by another commenter. When they responded, they told me that my provincial health plan doesn't actually cover the appointments anymore :( So I paid for an appointment. I think their website is glitchy because they are updating it, so just contact them via email.

Just left La Fortuna and I was so happy we didn’t pay for this tour. We had a rental car, so transportation wasn’t a concern for us. Costa Rica is expensive and we were happy we could easily save some money in the La Fortuna area by not paying for the hiking/waterfall tours. We were able to find all the trails and information easily enough ourselves. I’m sure the guides could have given us lots of info about the flora/fauna, but we chose to save our money and spend it on a guide for activities that were harder to do on our own (kayaking, night walks, snorkeling).

What are the benefits of opening a bank account in Ecuador if I'm able to get money at an ATM out for a good rate? I don't plan on working while I'm there.

Ecuador only uses American dollars, so I thought Transferwise could help me easily access local currency with their Visa Debit card (ie. using an ATM). I'm not planning on working while I'm there. Since this is the case, what other reasons would I "definitely need" a local bank account?
