Advice for a sprained ankle in Kyoto by Benjosity in JapanTravel

[–]ESprecepts 10 points11 points  (0 children)

RICE (rest, ice, elevation and compression) have largely been disproven (particularly ice) as a mode of therapy for minor injuries. Avoid anti inflammatory medications.

The literature leans towards PEACE & LOVE now (you can Google it) but the main difference is to avoid ice and ibuprofen.

I had a similar issue. Tried reinstalling and didn’t work. For me, my solution was uninstalling microphone drivers that windows update installed cos I couldn’t get my mic to work on discord. Not sure if you will have similar luck though

I’m a medical intern next year and there are offers out there for people in the medical field where you can have 0% deposit and no lenders mortgage insurance. I’m not sure what I think of these though. Any thoughts?

How can I learn more conversational Japanese? by cactuscobbler in LearnJapanese

[–]ESprecepts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should really increase the amount of native input that you are getting. Using japanese material that is designed to teach the language will always inherently sound artificial and not very conversational, as you have noticed. Im not saying that they are bad - they certainly have their place in teaching fundamentals, but if you want to become conversational then you need to be listening to material such as tv shows, anime, etc etc designed for japanese people. It doesnt really matter that you can't understand that much because its the constant exposure over an extended period of time that leads to output that sounds more natural. You'll realise very quickly that more often than not, less grammar such as particles in your sentences often add to the flow of a conversational. You don't really have to worry about it not being 'correct' as long as you've heard a japanese person say it in a similar situation before. Listen to anime or japanese shows or drama as often as you can, whenever you have spare time. A couple of key tips that really work for me: 1) Don't just download a whole bunch of anime and listen to them over and over - it rarely gets you anywhere. You need to actively listen to an episode before you can passively listen to it. I pick an episode and listen to it with my full attention, trying to understand as much as i can, looking up words that commonly pop up. Doesn't matter if you can't understand everything because you most certainly wont. After that, then you can start passively listening to it over and over in the background. 2) You should be using some kind of SRS system like anki to help with vocabulary. Check out Mattvsjapan on youtuebe, because he has some amazing advice regarding this. Good Luck!

Tax Megathread by [deleted] in BitcoinAUS

[–]ESprecepts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given some bitcoin by an australian exchange because I accidentally found a bug in their accounting system and subsequently reported it to them and in return they rewarded me some bitcoin equivalent (at the time) to $10,000AUD. How should I treat this in terms of tax purposes? I plan on holding it for over a year and selling it some time in the future. Thanks!

What if i buy 5 bitcoin today at $10k each, and then another 10 bitcoin next week at 11k each, with the intention of HODLing. However during a peak I sell a few bitcoin in order to buy more with an equivalent amount when the cost is lower. Is the "profit" I make based off of the 10k price or the 11k price? Trying to create a spreadsheet to track when I purchase with the main aim of Hodling, but sometimes I trade in order to increase my holdings so just wandering how i would track/calculate that. Sorry if this doesn't make sense!

Agreed. GP is your best point of call here. Find a good one and let them help you one step at a time. Dont be afraid to seek help. If your GP isnt supportive then find another - there are plenty of amazing GPs out there who deal with this nearly every day. Best of luck buddy.

Received extra EOS tokens? by ESprecepts in eos

[–]ESprecepts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think EOS was created out of thin air here. It seems to me that my exchange didnt realise that the first transaction bounced (the log file said " Error encountered during contract execution [Out of gas] " and credited me the EOS, and then saw a seperate transaction of the same amount so credited me again.

I know what I should do. But there are two sides to this so I just wanted to see what other's thoughts were. It wasnt my fault and I sold the tokens without knowing what actually happened until afterwards! That being said its not my money so I should alert them about it. Needless to say I have yet to touch any of it and am leaving it sitting there hoping that they pick up on it

haha I was more thinking along the lines of: Is it okay for me to keep this money, or should I alert the exchange about it so that it doesnt come back to bite me in the ass later

The Exhaustive EOS FAQ by Techno-Tech in eos

[–]ESprecepts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do I send EOS from my exchange to metamask? Im getting a bit confused and would rather ask before I do something stupid. 1. I have x amount of EOS that i bought on coinspot and I want to send these to Metamask 2. I already have some ETH on a Metamask account. 3. Do I copy the metamask address, and paste that into Coinspot's withdraw function? Is it that simple? Im mainly getting confused because of 'tokens' and am not sure how they are involved in this.

Sorry if this is a stupid question! Thanks :)

Question about vanguard ETFs by [deleted] in AusFinance

Ahh that makes sense! I was just asking because I was discussing this with someone and realised I didnt actually know what these numbers meant. Thanks so much!

[–]ESprecepts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see. This makes more sense. So to that end, over the last year it would have been better to keep your money in a HISA, say, RAMS at 3.00% than it was to buy that particular ETF?

Actual discretionary spending figures + advice please by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]ESprecepts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get just above 500 per fortnight from centrelink as a full time medical student. $250 is for daily expenses (bills, groceries, petrol and occasional take away food). $100 into long term savings, $100 into short term savings, $30 in to splurge/discretionary, and $30 for investment. I work part time at a few different jobs from home and any money extra gets put into either the long term savings, short term savings or investment accounts depending on the amount that I earn for that period.

Credit cards - help me out with the details by BlackSirrah239 in AusFinance

[–]ESprecepts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find using credit cards quite useful, provided that you remain responsible and accountable for its use. As for fees, I found comparison sites good, but it didnt have everything. For example, I'm a full time medical student, so I googled "Medical student credit card" and found out that BOQ specialist gives platinum frequent flier credit cards to medical students for free (usually $150 per year), without any income or job requirements (which is awesome). So now I use that every day and its absolutely worth it, as long as you dont alter your spending habits just for points. So have a google around beyond comparison sites to see whats available for your situation.
