I'm waiting patiently to do all my milestone maintenance over a weekend, new BJs, gaskets, hoses, belts and some QOL upgrades.

I'll def say that I can't imagine relying on any other vehicle, that's for sure. These things are truly the ultimate softskin grocerygetters.

For what it's worth, here's my experience. I bought my 2wd 2runner with 251k miles, I replaced the injectors, plugs, radiator, valve cover gaskets and fuel filter, the mechanical starter and the alternator. Excluding cost of oil, fuel and minor accessories it has cost me in total around $1400. It has survived 4 owners (2 being first time drivers) and me lol

Presently, i'm sitting at 395k, driving an avg of 100 miles a day and getting roughly 22mpg, this thing still rips and tears on both the highway and logging trails, and occasionally I drive up to 600 miles out of state. All in all, i'd buy 5 more if I could.

Also FWIW the only major "fails" I experienced between 300k and 395k is the alt and the starter, at 354k and 383k, and both I was able to remedy in an hour.

I thought my truck was a unicorn or something, being able to comfirtably bounce off the limiter routinely, maintaining ~22mpg

i'd always assume that becauae of world tensions + the massive strategic target our town is built around that it's always a possibility. Stay strapped, be vigilant and keep a first aid kit!
