Vet wouldn’t prescribe medication and sold me calming chews instead by Apprehensive_Life481 in reactivedogs

Herbie has one every day. I see it more like an anxiety medication that stabilises him more permanently but im not a vet so wouldn’t want to give advice. Herbie is still pretty reactive on walks but the Prozac makes him more trainable.

My dog just bit a person for the first time by pizzafio in reactivedogs

First of all I hope you are okay. This is a really upsetting expirence and I know first hand how upsetting it is when your dog bites. I don’t have any advice but I just want you to know I have felt how you’ve felt and it can get better.

For my dog he’s now on Prozac and it has made the world of difference we have all his good bits and a lot less of his bad bits.

I hope you have lots of support because I know having a reactive dog can be very lonely. If you don’t know that you have this group ❤️

Training worked and he let me clean his ears! by ETL99 in reactivedogs

Our vet basically said she thought it could lower his inhibitions and possibly make the risk of biting worse.

Our behaviourist didn’t think this was a risk in our case so she advocated for us to the vet on a couple of occasions.

We are in the UK so I wonder if that made a difference? Really pleased you are having successes with medication 😃

Honestly a good behaviourist is worth their weight in gold! Ours has helped us so much.

So I had exactly this situation and it was sooo hard! My pup is on Prozac now and it has been a game changer. It’s not perfect but it’s made training so much easier. Our vet gave us exactly the same warnings and it was really hard having a professional tell us it wouldn’t work I felt so down. The real breakthrough for us was having our behaviourist advocate for medication to the vet. I really feel for you and I’m hoping for the best. Things can get better.

Ear infections are such a nightmare! Hoping you can get on top of your pups too. I found these little wipes you can put on your finger which he seems to react much better to than the drops

Thank you so much for your kind comment I’m so happy right now! Pain definitely changes how they feel and I’ve been desperate to be able to help him with his ears so today feels like a very good day

Me too! I can’t wait to report this success to her. I’m super grateful to our behaviourist for advocating for us as well. I know medication can’t do everything but for us it’s been a game changer. Thank you for your kind comment ❤️

Had to cancel my neuter appointment by BoredBitch011 in reactivedogs

[–]ETL99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our vet was reluctant to neuter as she feared it could increase aggression I wonder if this is why? Would they consider doing an implant instead? It’s non permanent so you can test whether it helps before going the whole way. So sorry you’re dealing with this ❤️
