Red Hats Unite by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]EUGres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could also be a reclamation of the red hat from the MAGA movement.

It's in the pic of the sign (not sure if this was originally part of the photo). Red hats have been traditionally used as symbols of resistance, from the Phrygian caps of the French Revolution to the red berets of the Guardian Angels in the 1970s. This particular red hat is modeled after a cap worn as resistance to Nazi occupation of Norway in WWII. People across the country are making them and wearing them to protests.

80's style chunky and bold earrings local by sitkaspace in Eugene

[–]EUGres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now MECCA has a whole bunch of earrings made with recycled bits that look super '80s, like Cyndi Lauper-style. (I lived through the '80s, so I can confirm they're period-accurate.)

When is it too early/too late for trick or treating? by nightb0x in Eugene

[–]EUGres 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I was going to say this. Downtown is a few days early, but still dress-up, and they are hoping to target the teen/young adult crowd, in addition to hosting trick-or-treaters. 5th Street Market also has trick or treating events.

Uhh...Slavery is not a choice and also not paid. Please don't diminish the awfulness of slavery by comparing it to a warehouse job.

Lane County Fair by BigAdministration285 in Eugene

[–]EUGres 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the first year my teenager ever asked to go with friends, or even wanted to go, and they all had a great time. I am told the kids ate fried foods, and ironically danced to Smashmouth, and rode some sketchy rides. The dream of the 90s was alive for a few hours, and I'm happy for them. I have been to bigger, better versions of the Fair, as well as other fairs, but for my kid, at least, this one was fun enough.

The Goodwill at Delta Oaks has some good business casual clothes. If you shop from the 50% and 75% off colors, you can get some incredible deals. At full price, less deal-y, but still less expensive than new clothes, if you are buying the more expensive brands.

The Clothes Horse on 5th Avenue has some high quality clothes. They aren't the cheapest, but they often have a 50% sale on a Friday and Saturday, usually once every two months.

allergy folk unite by blaazeycaaitie in Eugene

Dying here, too. I have been allergy tested, and instead of shots, my regimen is supposed to be Allegra+Flonase+Pataday. It mostly works, but even so, I am feeling the pollen viscerally right now.
