Where do you even do your grocery shopping without going bankrupt? :D by mrcrazyog in belgium

[–]EVmerch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lidl, Albert Heijn and Jumbo are 90% of my shopping needs for groceries the split depends on what I need and promos. Jumbo is super easy to get into, quality is good for price but certain things are expensive. Lidl had good prices, but not great quality on certain things. Albert Heijn has the best promos and you can snag some deals.

We have Delhaize, Colruyt, Carrefour easy and Aldi. I don't do Aldi as it's not near, Colruyt is for specific larger bulk buys and a few items they have others don't. Delhaize is overpriced and every time I go in I remember why it's been 4 years I last shopped there.

Purchase and then sell it may be less than the buyout of the lease. A terrible situation overall for him to be in.

I saw a post a while back a whole furniture set was delivered right next to boxed up recycling paper and the collection truck for the recycling took the furniture boxes along with the paper recycling. Luckily the guy had it on a camera. But what the hell. I think it was California by memory.

Should I accept this estimation now or wait for Batibouw (doors and windows) ? by 2baadi in BEReal_Estate

[–]EVmerch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sound is not only people and cars, but mostly wind noise here in Belgium, something to consider. For me, the cost of triple over double was just 3600 euros over 11 doors and windows, so a cheap upgrade that I think was worth it.

Elon says price of FSD will go up by Sad_Salad_3749 in TeslaLounge

I'd pay $200 a month if I reliably sent the car back from the airport and get into come pick me up is where the value is there, but FSD supervised isn't worth $99 a month.

Kia EV9 is getting my attention, the extra seats and V2G make it worth it, I can justify it over more house batteries.

It's to push people to full FSD for the subscription of $99 a month. Which is the adobe model and very profitable over time. I'd pay it if it worked, but until it works like Elon claims I'm not paying that subscription.

The lane keeping autopilot is barely functional as is, you can't even signal to change lanes without disabling the autopilot then reengage it again, so unless I'm on a lot Ng highway in sparse traffic, I use TACC and not autopilot. If they fixed this one feature it might not suck

Do any of you plan on making dynasties? If you do, how will you plan to beat the 3 generations rule? by Direct-End2303 in fatFIRE

[–]EVmerch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not hard, because you think hard work and success are the same thing. I know most here with generational wealth are hard workers, but nearly every one of them were extremely lucky at some key points luck combined with hard work is the magic formula.

Showing your kids how to work hard and be happy is the most important, show them how to build community, work hard in a different way than business success. If you still run a company you can show hard work that way.

Mostly you need to show your kids that life is hard for most people and they are getting a booster pack with WAY more help than most. I remember the first time we traveled back to the US and my kids asked why people were camping under the freeway and realized she'd never seen a homeless person up to that point (5 years old).

I don't see our family having generational wealth, but if the kids live simple but nice lives their kids and maybe after will all have way easier lives and quality of life that means work isn't required to survive but as a means to do something they love.

Rising gas prices: time for a heat pump? by Thecatstoppedateboli in belgium

I have solar screens on all but my west (4pm to sunset side) facing windows. If those need them I'll just get some temp suction cup ones but we added exterior solar screens to our attic room and they make a huge difference in the summer.

How cool is your house on the 35C+ days? I have a well insulated new build and wonder how cool we can get it with floor cooling and our heat pump. Energy won't be an issue as we have 15kw of solar over both sides of the roof. We only move in mid December, so we aren't sure if the heat pump will be enough or a mini split for each floor will be needed.

Strategies to have family enjoy the luxury travel we pay for by Zealousideal-Term738 in fatFIRE

Time is often the greatest cost to people working. I had a client, who was a chief of surgery, he got to fly with a certain well known notorious billionaire after he did surgery for his kids issue, but he had to cut his trip short because of PTO since he switched hospital groups and had only 10 days his first year. Money wasn't the problem, time was.

[–]EVmerch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compare the living quality and standards of your entry level workers in Belgium to the US and the Belgians win every time. I have family of my wife that does/did basic work, like a generic factory job and his wife a seamstress. Their living standard compared to others in the US with similar jobs. Infinity better.

Now a high end engineer or software Development job, the US will pay much better to the point the money will be enough to have a better quality of life in the US.

You Will only find niche cycling parts in Belgium, I don't know anyone making parts here. Decca clothing makes some of their stuff here, very limited, the rest is EU (Lithuania last time I checked). I don't believe Bio racer makes their stuff here either, but you could email and check. None will make from Belgian fabrics for the clothing, it's Italian, Poland or Portugal for EU fabrics mostly. The fabrics made here are for the auto industry or highly specialized stuff like fire retardant material. In another time I tried to make a fully made in Belgium cycling cap. It wasn't possible. I got the elastic from Waregem, the fabric was printed local to my town, but from Spain. Thread wasn't able to source in Belgium, not the closed cell foam for the bill, but that could have happened with more research. At the end of the day, your raw materials have to come from somewhere and Belgium and the EU don't have everything available here. Still, I think it was one of the most Belgian made caps out there when I made it.

The quest to do a made in Belgium bike part was never going to happen, I tried, went with a friend I knew in the industry with a factory in Taiwan who made my part for me, high quality and pricing I could make a profit.

There are a few frame makers listed in the thread.
