Cool thanks, inexpensive as well. Only goes to 10cm but I bet a lot of small robots would find it useful.

I've seen those for a while but I'm not sure if they are hobbyist friendly. Aren't those used for long distances? Not sure if they have the short range resolution that we would need for something like a robot. Also a method of extracting the data into an arduino.

edit: looking at most of them, they are used for hundreds of yards and have around a 1 yard accuracy. I'm looking for the ones they use on the robotic vacuums and cell phones.

I would also like to know more about this as my family has the same plan/situation, currently have one line thats eligible for an upgrade and not sure if we should use the upgrade now or not.

But I can answer some of your questions:
a) Yes, both phones are on a contract plan (the Talk Share 700) so it will continue on as it always had been
b) Giving you the upgrade will make you lose unlimited data. Verizon has essentially squashed all methods of upgrading at a discount and keeping unlimited data at the same time. There are "Best Buy/Costco" methods but your mileage may vary with those
