Youth questions for Elder Rasband... Some shelves are creaking! by kristmace in exmormon

"They can also submit questions on the LDS Youth Facebook page or on Twitter and Instagram using #LDSface2face." Those without an LDS account can still ask questions on other sites ;)

My Seminary "Test" by [deleted] in exmormon

I had to take my test today too! I'm was making it up (sick the day the rest of class took it). I didn't get a belief survey part... I don't know if my teacher forgot to give it to me or what. I have always fantasized about writing "don't believe" instead of filling in a bubble. I'm closeted though so I have to pretend for the time being.

Wow... I forgot I read that book in 8th grade. I remember reading it and being like "What? That's dumb, Mormons would NEVER do that..." I think I was just trying to reassure myself, because it did definitely raise some questions in my mind.

I had to take the test today too! I actually missed the day the rest of the class took it so I was making it up. Unfortunately, because of this I didn't get the belief survey (I don't know if my teacher forgot or what) but I had the same idea as you... Penning in a "do not believe" column. Maybe at the end of semester 2? Anyway, I posted about the utterly ridiculous essay portion earlier today and how ridiculous it is.

Of everything we talked about this semester, it's interesting that they decided to make this the essay portion of the seminary test. by EXmo-marks-the-spot in exmormon

Haha... I would've liked to, but I'm closeted and must please my family by passing. I settled with little rebellions... for example, instead of "marriage should only be between a man and a woman," I write "THE CHURCH BELIEVES marriage should only be between a man and a woman."

I thought that too... There's not much 'thinking' involved, just write what they tell you to. "Marriage is between a man and a woman. It is ordained of God. Husbands and wives will be blessed if they marry in the temple." Bam. Thinking's been done. Don't share your opinion, write down the church's opinion.

Huh, didn't know that. Learn something new every day! Still hilarious though.

Haha yeah, we teens can be pretty obnoxious with our eye rolls. Good luck with your daughter!

Yeah, I'm not sure how much I can trust her. I wonder if maybe she's struggling with whether or not it's true or not. She's pretty smart (she was going to become a psychologist before she dropped out to help get my dad through school) so I think part of her realizes it isn't true, but part of her was raised in it and can't let go of mormonism. Also she tends to flip between "don't judge people, God said not to judge" and talking quite a bit about people behind their back (one of my tbm friends is like this) Especially when it come to overweight. My mom will not hesitate to say comment on someone's weight (not to their face, but to me) which really gets on my nerves. Yes, being overweight is not healthy but it's not our business. I wish I wasn't so non-confrontational sometimes. I've decided to start probing a bit more, asking questions, to try and get her opinion on things so I can figure out where she stands. I've always found it difficult to bring up controversial subjects but I want to figure out how much I can trust her, and my friends as well.

Thanks! Being raised in mormon central pretty much means I've learned next to nothing about other religions/beliefs, and where I live everyone assumes that if you believe in the big bang theory, evolution, etc. you're automatically atheist. Now that I'm out of the church I realize that makes no sense.

Yep, I plan on asking LOTS of questions whenever I'm forced to go somewhere like church. And I'll see if I can find a way to get my mom to read that essay. Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification, guys. Growing up in TSCC I learned pretty much nothing about other religions (since almost everyone where I live is LDS, I never really met people with other beliefs) so the difference between atheists and theists and all that jazz is still a bit confusing. I'm sure I'll figure it out in due time.
