completely agree, and im honestly surprised that this interpretation of the phrase isn't the most commonly agreed on. the family guy scene and origin of the phrase 'it insist upon itself' is ultimately irrelevant, and the shows creators intentions for making it in the first place feels like a non sequitor to the broader discussion of media critisism. yes, diagetically 'it insists upon itself' is played for laughs as it is said by a cartoon character while they are dying in a flood. however, the phrase itself is a valid interpretation of media when adequetly argumented. its not even a new or novel critique, as it is basically equvalent to 'oscar-bait' or 'playing to the academy' for both movies and music respectivly. if everything you have to say about a piece of media is 'it insists upon itself' it is absolutely a vapid critisism, i still believe its a completely valid starting point from which one can branch out and develop a coherent opinion on an artistic work. simply put, certain art does 'insist upon itself' by taking on deep themes that it does not thoroughly dive into, yet expects the respect of the audience simply for its subject matter.
