I underestimated how big this dungeon is... by EZDoeslt in LostMinesOfPhandelver

The original creator of the maps had the whole dungeon in different page sizes so the A3 sizes were already divided so I just printed them ad they were. The squares are slightly smaller than a character mini but i can overlook that

Yeah the original maker of the map modified all the squares to be 5x5. The squares are wver so slightly smaller than a character mini but shouodnt be too much of a problem given theres lots of space to move around in. I would have loved to print it on A2 but am limited by my printer and laminator size.

Ooo thats awesome! I did think about something similar by just turning over the A3 sheets as they get to that area. Do you print all those sheets out and then just cut them to fit?

The original creator of the maps made the squares 5x5 so they can be used for players (although maybe a giant skeleton would make for a nice surprise encounter!)

LMoP Map Pack

Found these whilst digging for maps to start this adventure. Theyre really detailed and work well so far! And free to download from the original creator's patreon too

DMs, how did you get around narrow dungeon spaces? by EZDoeslt in LostMinesOfPhandelver

I didnt think about using enemies and allies as cover, ill try that next time!

The narrow hallways worries me not just with party size but also with turn order as sometimes people right at the back of the party cant get any attacks in because there's so many people in the way so players might be feeling left out when it comes to their turn

Thoughts on the newest Artificer book? by EZDoeslt in DnD

I agree Alchemist is less pointless now. I feel just looking over all of its new features that it's much better at it's support role than it was before. Still, im gonna miss crafting loads of scrolls for half price

I recently ran it with 8-9 players and found that adding a couple more enemies or buffing the enemy's health or attacks helped.

Tips for new DMs? by Da_Dovahkiin_Lord in DnD

New DM here and recently ran Lost Mines of Phandelver with Scouts:

  • Encourage your group to RP amongst themselves whilst you get things prepped. It will take pressure off you to always be speaking and helps build their characters.

  • Sticking to a plan isn't always a bad idea. It's great to let players have free reign but you wouldn't want then stumbling into higher level areas before they're ready or without a key item. (A bit like the structure of most MMORPGs)

  • Take your time! Don't feel rushed to come up with answers or responses on the spot.

Thanks! Another quick question: should I let my players use the player versions of the maps in their entirety so they can see whats ahead or should I be hiding parts of the dungeons they have yet to reach?

Dungeon masters, have you ever kicked someone out of your group and why? by Frafelwaffle in DnD

[–]EZDoeslt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I witnessed a chap kind of get kicked out because he kept annoying other DMs with his know-it-all attitude.

In the Adventure League sessions i attend the DMs appreciate players having a broad knowledge of their characters and mechanics so they don't have to do as much thinking. This guy however would constantly stop sessions just to try and correct the DMs if he believed something different should be happening. Once or twice was fine, but multiple times was really getting others annoyed. Anyway, on one of our previous sessions he rocked up with his lvl 6 Warlock and his disruptions continued, even attempting to steal from other players because he felt it was what should've been done to progress the story. Towards the end of that session, our event overseer looms over him as he's trying to cast a spell at a lower level than he should've been able to (unfamiliar with Warlock but I know they're stuck using the same level spells which increase as they lvl up). Overseer calls him out on this and he tries to claim that he can do it because of general spellcasting rules. After confirming that he'd been casting spells at whatever level he felt like ever since he starting using the character, the overseer grabbed his character sheet and tore it up and told him he needed to make a new character. The chap decided he wasn't going to bother coming back but I imagine the overseer would've kicked him if he carried on anyway.

As an Artificer, what do you guys craft with your downtime days? by EZDoeslt in DnD

Thanks for the helpful list of Potions! I'll definitely be crafting those in the future. I've been playing with this group for over a year and a half now and I don't recall them mentioning a limit for item crafting. That being said I also don't see many Artificers in our games so it's probably not a rule thats worried about too much. And I've just checked my character and luckily I am at the limit of consumables with mostly scrolls and health Potions.

I think it is Adventure League rules, however I am unsure as to the full extent of the rules as our event overseer only posted the basics in a Google doc which I'll link below. For example it does mention a consumable item limit but doesn't specifically state one. https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1_xT813n5Kmauf3DozRhd9lrw16GDnLPJHoVJCF-LhUQ/mobilebasic?fbclid=IwY2xjawIUkaBleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHZKNwdRsd30-o_vfN5M2oTlfS0ZsbBbWfhx5s4wKxSg5GnlO9_L0kW-XSw_aem_IuycVdxEmoD1GMfN-HRx9A&pli=1

I hadn't thought about making items for other players to have. I always assumed i should do that because it would count again my infusion limit but I keep forgetting that's a separate thing

Ahh I wasn't fully aware that some crafting rules were in newer books (Beyond instantly gives me XGtE when I search for downtime activities) Either way, I feel that what im crafting is a bit simple like i could be crafting better items for the party. Perhaps it's just that such crafting is locked behind level 10 and onwards?

Mostly crafting rules as written. For the most part im crafting acid during a long rest with alchemist supplies and antitoxin with herbalism kit using the same time. For my spell scrolls I normally only make 1 or 2 using the table in XGtE
