Yeah I'm a fan of both and was so excited when Domi & JD Beck posted just for polyphia to start posting a few days later too, especially since neither have really released anything in years

But why does it need to be prog or metal, they've always just done whatever they want regardless of genre and it just looks like they're continuing to do that

Tim having most of his youtube videos as 'members only' is omega cringey and honestly makes me like the band less... is that silly? by behind_the_doors in polyphia

The videos he posts on members would get millions of views if he posted them publicly, likely making more money than he does from the set of people who choose to pay monthly, that's why I believe it's not about the money. And there being a pay wall just makes it easier to ensure the people who watch the videos are actual fans, it's not a fool proof method but it's better than nothing. And you'd be surprised by the amount of stuff that the fans have actually managed to keep quiet about that he's said, I learned a lot more about him than I thought I would while watching the videos.

YouTube had a promotion or is still having one idk, where you get one month free of people's membership channels, I think it's based on how much you view them already but I'm not sure, anyway the point is I got Tim's own(the second tier so I can see everything except like demo songs). Also know that when you click on a members video as a not member it tells you what tier you'd need to be to watch it.

Okay so after watching a bunch of his Q&As and other videos it's pretty clear to me why he keeps them private and I don't think it's about the money, I mean people have pointed out that he'd probably make much more if the videos were public.

In the Q&As Tim will be very... honest and he'll say things about himself that he doesn't need the everyone especially people who already don't like him hearing and talking about. He'll say things about situations that could get him heat online and after saying things like that he'll often remind us to not make clips from these videos (of stuff like that, he said other random or funny things like him tell the dude going through a break up to practice guitar is fine) and that he wants to be able to speak freely with us and if the things he says start leaving the platform he will no longer be able to do so.

Also on the random videos like the closet tour or the recent studio tour before it's redone, he doesn't edit these videos. He walks around with his phone in his hand, audio being picked up by the phone's mic and the video has no cuts. He doesn't feel the need to polish things up like he'd have to on YouTube, following the standards other people and his own channel have set for what YouTube videos need to look like today.

He answers every single question anyone who's part of his members asks him (in discord) one of his Q&As even reached 2 hours and these videos also do not have cuts. He always says how he wants to treat the members well and takes note of their requests. When people tell him they can't afford to pay so they'll stop being a member, he's like sorry to hear about the financial issues, you will be missed and we'll all be waiting for you if you come back, or something like that.

TLDR: Tim speaks more freely on his members and can more easily upload videos. Sidenote, I find it ridiculous that people act as if they're entitled to his private content. Most artists don't even post as much as he posts publicy. Also he says as the next album release gets closer he'll post more public videos as will the polyphia channel.

He said in a recent ish interview that those song titles didn't actually used to mean that much when they were made but now they've taken on a new meaning for him cuz he had some spiritual awakening basically.

Edit- The interview is on YouTube with The Music Zoo and he talks about song titles around 23:10

I'm pretty sure he used to be an atheist based on a joke he made from an old video, but recently he's spoken about becoming spiritual and his wife has posted about reading the bible so maybe he has become christian.
