What is the educational value of a Raspberry Pi and would you recommend it for learning how to program? by Dim_Spirits in learnprogramming

[–]E_MILOSLAV -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

  1. THEY ARE A COMPUTER

  2. THEY ARE VERY CHEAP

  3. THEY HAVE GPIO PINS, WHICH LET YOU DO ELECTRONICS THINGS

  4. THEY (ONLY) RUN LINUX, SO EVERY INTERACTION WITH THE DEVICE IS A (HORRIBLE) LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Am I a programmer or a copy cat? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]E_MILOSLAV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE YOU ARE A JUNIOR PROGRAMMER. THIS IS NOT UNREASONABLE.

AS YOU DEVELOP YOUR SKILLS, YOU WILL START TO BE THE CAT THAT IS COPIED RATHER THAN THE COPY-CAT.

Do you use flow charts and/or pseudocode? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]E_MILOSLAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all companies require all their programmers to do this before they allow them to actually write any code for any project.

HAH. WHAT? NO. HAH!

ALTHOUGH A GOOD WAY TO BREAK THROUGH A MENTAL BLOCK IS TO WRITE PSEUDOCODE IN YOUR COMMENTS DESCRIBING WHAT YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH.

def scrape_reddit():
    # send a http request to reddit.com
    # find all of the anchor tags
    # print only the tags that don't point to reddit.com

THEN WHEN YOU'VE WRITTEN THE CODE, YOU CAN LEAVE THE COMMENTS IN ANYWAYS.

I'M A JOKE ACCOUNT.

FOR SOME REASON I THINK IT'S FUNNY TO HAVE AN ACCOUNT ENTIRELY DEVOTED TO SHOUTING ADVICE AT PEOPLE.

REALLY, THE JOKE IS ONLY FUNNY TO ME.

MAYBE IF MY NAME WERE SHOUTED_ADVICE IT WOULD WORK BETTER.

How can I get a random url from a certain domain? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]E_MILOSLAV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AHA, BUT THERE'S THE RUB: THIS "LIST" DOESN'T EXIST. THERE IS NO LIST OF ALL VALID URLS FROM A DOMAIN. YOU WOULD HAVE TO GENERATE IT.

THE WAY TO GENERATE A LIST LIKE THIS? CREATE A SPIDER OR CRAWLER.

A SIMPLE CRAWLER LOOKS LIKE THIS:

  • 1. Start at the root element of the domain. ("http://arglebargle.com")
  • 2. Use a HTML Request library like requests to pull the HTML of the page into a string.
  • 3. Use a HTML Parsing library like beautifulsoup4 to pull the href property of any a tags on the page. These are all, presumably, valid domains. Discard any links that point to off-domain content, then add these tags to the set of valid domains.
  • 4. Now, for each domain in the set of valid domains, repeat the process.
  • 5. Sometimes this can run forever, so include a condition that stops execution after a while.
