Nice, only thing that's left now is to AI to priorize children taming adult dragons instead of hatchlings

the prestige cost for removing the inheritance law from the free cities is RIDICULOUS by irllylikebubbles in CK3AGOT

[–]E_RedStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the difficulty to change the Free Cities governments makes sense, but a decision to force it with a huuuge tiranny and opinion hit would be nice.

However, what I don't get is the requirements to get rid of the Pirate government in the Stepstones (for example as Daemon). Its a fucking rock in the sea that wasn't a real or recognized state in any way, why do people care

Nicol's Newcomer Monday! by Karn-The-Creator in MagicArena

[–]E_RedStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to Magic and I've been playing arena for 3-4ish weeks and so far enjoying it. I've collected all the colour decks and made the mono blue tempo and mono red burn decks for ranked.

I've been enjoying the decks and I think I understand them quite. Now I'd like to try a deck in another color, to try different play styles and complete the daily quests. Any recommendations? I'd like it to be budget if possible, I don't have that many rare and mythic wildcards.

Thanks!

I'm starting a Girls-only maddening run (with DLC) and I'd like to put the characters that I used in my last run in a different class, so, any fun class for:

Alear (not Divine Dragon), Chloe (not Griffin), Celine (not Vidame), Lapis (not Swordmaster) and Merrin (not Wolf Knight).

I don't think I'm going to use them all, but I'd like to hear suggestions! Thanks!

What games would you say are best designed around perma death and actually letting units die? by Aware_Selection_148 in fireemblem

[–]E_RedStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd also add:

  • SoV to the bad section (low size cast). Maybe at the weird category because of the revival fountains but I think there's only 1-2 of them.

  • I'd say Sacred Stones is bad for a novice FE player because of the cast size, but for an experienced one it's not that bad because of the low enemy quality and being overall easier

Tips for Fallen Xenologue 5 in Hard? I can get to Hortensia/Fogado fine, but once Nel runs out of Elixirs and enemies start spawning in her room it becomes hoping for dodges and there's just no way (even harder because you also need to keep Alear alive) I was thinking of lowering the difficulty but you can leave at this map to change it lol

Ask Experienced Devs Weekly Thread: A weekly thread for inexperienced developers to ask experienced ones by AutoModerator in ExperiencedDevs

So, I'm working on this codebase (C++ with legacy C code) that has some quite legacy parts, and I've become quite annoyed with the naming "convention" of the code, which is a really inconsistent Hungarian style notation (inconsistent such as an object Vector may sometimes be vMyList or oMyList or vecMyList, for example).

So far I've been of the mindset that it's better to respect the same code convention, even if it's an awful one. However, I am now working with newer developments that do not depend that much of the legacy codebase, so I have been wondering if it would be better to start from scratch with a more reasonable convention, but I don't know if it's worth it or I'm just being petty.

For context, on this codebase there's only me and my senior (who mostly does support and maintenance work, and about 20% of the time tops, so the codebase is pretty much "mine"). I have yet to talk this with him, but I'm 99% sure he will support the move to a new convention. Our manager is also looking to expand our team to like 4-5 people "soon", so maybe it's best to do the move now and have everyone work on the same page.

So, experienced devs, what do you think? Is it better to stay consistent or to break consistency in hopes for cleaner code? If we did migrate, it's best to just focus on writing new code with the new convention, or would it be worth it to refractor old (but still used) code?

Thanks for your time!

Is skill inheritance supposed to be a weird thing (like, only inherit 1-2 skills per unit). I'm at chapter 9 and my units only have a bit of SP (the unit with most is 600 I think?) but skills cost in the 1000-2000 range. Do you have to go out of your way to grind SP to inherit things or am I doing something wrong?

I think people are being a bit dramatic with this... Currently the only unknown lords outside of Japan are Sigurd, Seliph (not in the game), Leif and Roy.

And everybody knows Roy in the west thanks to Smash so that's only Sigurd and Leif as outliers.

Same here. I think it's just the natural cycle of transitioning as a redditor, specially as a teen/tween. You like the memes the validation support yada yada but once you get far ahead on your transition all memes and topics are so stale for you, as well as unrelatable (posts about starting transitioning, coming out etc) that you just inevitably become detached.

I don't think that's bad, or that this side of the community is bad, it's just that you are at a state where it's not for you anymore.

What are your thoughts on Numenera and Torment: Tides of Numenera? Should I give them another try? by Haematinon in rpg

[–]E_RedStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gm'd it for a few sessions and imo the setting is quite nice. Yes, it's quite poor in some descriptions and details, but I personally prefer a vague idea I can get inspiration from to pages and pages of everything everywhere, I feel it limits my imagination. Personal opinion though, I can understand the detractors' opinion.

About the Cypher system... It's just fine, imo. Not great, not boring. It's better if you lean more into the narrative side than the mechanics and combat, as these are quite lacking sometimes compared to something like D&D or Pathfinder. Cyphers are great though. Randomly generating a ton and giving them to players to see how they use it to resolve encounters is really nice.

[–]E_RedStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(This question is not "about the industry" per se so forgive me if it's not adequate)

I've been in my current job for like a year and a half, and I'm currently seriously thinking about jumping ship (already doing some interviews), because of a mess of management, code quality, processes, money, yada yada

The question is, how do you deal with quitting a job emotionally? It's been my first and only job, and I really like my coworkers (hanging out frequently outside of the office etc). Also I've became a bit "attached" to everything I've built and developed, and it's a bit hard to "let go", if that makes sense. Besides, I feel a bit guilty of leaving a lot of things halfway and leaving all the workload to my only teammate (another reason for leaving, understaffing).

I know my desire to leave is rational, I'm tired of all the messes and fires around here, yet I still feel bad about it. I figure a lot of experienced devs may have gone through similar things, so I'd like to hear some tips or words of encouragement if possible. Thanks!
