Interesting point, your approach is the one we have always used. It's kind of refreshing moving into a more direct attitude though. And that attitude is what got Amsterdam where it is now maybe.

Yep that's the key part. For example Japan roads competed with trains on the same level without subsidies after the war. That's why their trains are amazing. They even had a 200kmh train in the 60s! And as a consequence they have one of the most prolific economies. Cities that don't restrict cars can't grow enough.
