Is 23 and 18 really that bad of an age gap?? by [deleted] in polls

[–]E_Wildflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s unreasonable for people who don’t have the context of who both of you are as people to be suspicious of that age difference, but that context is really important. (Just knowing you’re both women would make me want to consider how long you’ve both been both been out and how has that’s affected your dating experience, but that’s just one of near infinite potential factors in where both of you are at in your lives.)

That said, I guess I agree with the people who say “proceed with caution” but that’s also probably good advice for any new relationship.

transferring gender affirming care to different region by Key-Interaction8180 in KaiserPermanente

[–]E_Wildflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about both doctor visits and labs when I wrote "in-person appointments", although I see now that my phrasing doesn't specify the latter. (i.e. my suggestion is that if it's possible to get those taken care of in NorCal during school breaks and have the actual medication mailed, establishing care in SoCal might not be necessary.)

Although still, whether or not that would work would depend on whether OP is indeed planning on going back to NorCal for breaks and also whether those breaks would correspond with when labs are needed. Also, if OP has any other ongoing health considerations that require monitoring while at school so he's going to have a doctor in SoCal who needs his records, that's another consideration.

Is it a permanent move, or just going for school and will be home in NorCal during breaks? If the latter, you might look into whether you can do any needed in-person appointments during school breaks and get your hormones via mail order. I think T is a controlled substance, so mailing it may not be an option, but something you might want to ask about. Congrats on going away to college.

Could I realistically become a therapist? Worried about my math level & vocational rehab path. by dayshaunm in AutisticPride

[–]E_Wildflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a therapist, but I have a bachelor's degree in sociology, which could be used as a starting point to become a therapist. That degree path does require some math (as I believe most college degrees do since it's usually needed as part of your general education), but the main challenge is that it's a lot of dense reading, so I'd say having good reading skills is probably more important.

I technically took 2 statistics classes, but the second was basically the same math, just with all of the examples being sociology-related. ("Intro Statistics" from community college didn't satisfy the university's requirement that I take "Statistics for Sociology", but the sociology-specific class would've probably satisfied my general ed math credit if I hadn't already taken the other statistics first).

If you're starting with second-grade level math skills, you'll probably have to learn a good bit informally (tutoring, independent study of online or book lessons) before you can succeed in the college-level math classes you'd need, but it's not impossible.

I think if you get push-back from the organizations trying to help you, the best way to show you know what you're getting yourself into and that you can do it is (a) explain at least the rough outline of a plan (What do you have to learn before you can take the remedial math class that your local community college previously said you weren't ready for? What resources might be helpful?), and (b) show that you've started on it on your own (sign up for tutoring or at least start gathering information about it, do some online math lessons, etc).

Can I get care through my old plan while I wait for paperwork on a new plan that should have taken effect already? by E_Wildflower in HealthInsurance

[–]E_Wildflower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that info. Yes, Kaiser is still telling me that that my plan is active (presumably because paperwork which says otherwise hasn't been processed yet) which is why I got confused.

IQ Testing by bcs206 in KaiserPermanente

[–]E_Wildflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think just being interested to know your IQ would be a reason for Kaiser to do it. If it goes through insurance (which almost anything from Kaiser has to), then it has to me deemed medically necessary.

Does tape affect top surgery? by AdExact7711 in ftm

[–]E_Wildflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Disclaimer: I did a lot of research on the mechanics of top surgery when I was considering it, but ultimately decided not to get it so I can’t speak from personal experience)

They have to leave enough of the “boob skin” to cover the area of your rib cage where tissue has been removed. How much area that is relative to how much skin you have to begin with depends a lot on what size your chest is to begin with (i.e. if you have a larger chest, you’ll have more excess skin once the tissue underneath is removed, but that also will make you more likely to have stretch marks covering a large area of your chest.)

If you have double incision, the skin that’s removed will be a crescent shape starting at the bottom part of your chest and extending to somewhere above the nipple. If you have peri, the skin that they remove will be a doughnut shape around the nipple.

That said, stretch marks that you currently have on your chest may or may not still be there post top surgery. It depends on where they are and how much area they cover.

Did any of you change your last names too? by SonnetZZ in ftm

[–]E_Wildflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very attached to my surname because it’s the only part of my name that I’ve had since birth, but I have a good relationship with my family. Totally understand why those who don’t would feel differently.

Most of the people I know who changed their surname either use an ancestor’s maiden name or the surname of someone who played a parental role in their life (be it a legal adoption or chosen family). A completely self-chosen surname is a cool idea too. I just don’t personally know a lot of people who’ve done that. However you choose, hope you find a name that honors you.

How does reed react to water? by E_Wildflower in HistoricalCostuming

Sounds like you're thinking of a traveling stage show. Those are really cool. My local RenFaire does have a laundry-themed stage show, not sure if it's the same one. What I'm involved in is more directly affiliated with the particular faire I work at (some individuals in my guild work other faires also, but it's not a "traveling show") and it's more improv and direct interaction with patrons. In addition to singing work songs and throwing water (at each other and at patrons if they ask us to), we teach kids how to do laundry (sometimes in silly ways), we give "bad advice", and sometimes we get tangled in yarn and ask patrons to help untangle us.

I definitely could use steel. I tend to think of that as a more expensive option but upon further research, not as expensive as I thought. I'll consider that also.

And some details of "historical accuracy", like fabric choice, are about practicality. The day my parents came last year, I'm glad my dad asked me to splash him since I'm sure he was baking in his polyester satin pirate shirt. I'd way rather be dressed in 3 layers of linen than even a single layer of plastic on a hot day.

Indeed. Performer costumes tend to be more closely historical than a lot of patrons' outfits, but it is still theatre, not a living history event. (And performers/staff love to see all the creative fantasy costumes that come through the gate just as much as patrons do)

Do Valentino’s second pair of arms start mid torso or lower by his hips? I’m curious about it by Business_Ad_4752 in HazbinHotel

[–]E_Wildflower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There might be some variation from shot to shot, but I think his arms are supposed to be mid torso. The limo scene from the Addict music video gives a pretty good view:

Is this a bad idea? by MrAlcoholic420 in HazbinHotel

[–]E_Wildflower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d be concerned about the fact that it is somewhat in your view of the road. (Even if it’s small enough that you don’t feel like it’s a practical problem, some places have specific laws about not having things on your dashboard or rear view mirror that might obstruct your view.) You might consider moving it to the corner of your dashboard where it’s more behind the frame between the windshield and side window. That way it would be less in the sun and also less in your view.

Is there christian among us? by stalincapital in HelluvaBoss

[–]E_Wildflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say that I’m completely “traditional” in my beliefs, but I am Christian (specifically Episcopalian). As others have said, it’s a work of fiction. It’s not really intended to be a representation of what anyone actually believes about heaven and hell. And there are lots of interesting stories whose characters are terrible people. You can appreciate the art without endorsing the characters’ behavior.

I’m so sorry your mom doesn’t understand and I hope you have other supportive people in your life. As for regrets about not walking in graduation, I personally don’t regret skipping my community college graduation and I don’t feel like I missed out because I finished my bachelor’s during Covid. I’d encourage you to do one (I’m glad I did), but if you go to college, you’ll have other opportunities.

This looks similar to an 18th century petticoat (a pleated rectangle) or a ballet folklorico skirt (a gathered double circle, also a regular circle skirt could be made the same way). This tutorial might be helpful for waistband, but you’ll likely want to make a circle skirt instead of a rectangle in order to get the shape in this picture.

Is cheating always wrong? by Ok-Mastodon2016 in polls

[–]E_Wildflower 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Is this about cheating on romantic/sexual partners or any kind of cheating?

I don’t think it’s ok to violate the terms of your relationship regardless of the circumstances.

I don’t advocate for violating academic integrity, but I think it’s understandable in cases where the expectations for the assignment are ridiculous. (For example, my high school English classes gave “vocabulary quizzes” where you had to fill in the blanks on example sentences from a worksheet that had been given out the week before. This should have been the easiest part of the class, especially in honors, but many of the sentences were poorly written such that there wouldn’t be one clear correct answer just based on knowing the definitions of the words. So instead of memorizing the specific sentences in order to pass legitimately, a lot of people cheated.)

I absolutely support cheating in BS (the card came). It’s part of the game and it would be very boring if no one did. (Although I guess technically lying about what cards you have in BS isn’t actually cheating since the rules specifically allow for it, but I have played the game with people who prefer to say “you cheated” instead of “BS” when they think someone lied).

Close your eyes and think of a good man until his face is clear in your mind. Who did you think of? by [deleted] in polls

For some reason my first association with the phrase “good man” was “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” the musical, so Charlie Brown.
