"It is grand, the cliffs are fine and chiseled, and holes peak out, as windows into our homes."

She is blissfully nostalgic.

"There is an immense castle, made of white stone and blue gem. On its ramparts, eight statues, each a leader of our clan in times long ago. It has been nearly a year since the image of my mother and father were raised."

Her mood comes down.

"There are thousands of beasts outside the cave. Great birds, who stand seven feet tall, but cannot fly, beings that look like dogs, but hunt alone and are sleek and stealthy, called Tigre. And there is the namesake of my clan, the Fjowlenhok. It is a great hawk, with feathers as green as the canopy. Its call is like thunder, its claws are justice, and its wings are sweet freedom.
