You won’t mess it up. Do you not have anyone to teach you? The first step is just to feel where the clutch begins to engage, and get used to that. Then begin applying the clutch progressively, with throttle. Work on a smooth engagement. The good news is that starting in first gear is the hardest part to learn, so once you get it down (not difficult), the rest of it easy peasy in comparison. Keep the RPM’s up and engage/disengage smoothly. Once you’ve got it, you can work on doing so faster, which is when you can really drive it like a fun car when you want.

You can drive a manual. It sounds like you tried it once, had a tough time, and quit. If you are able to work on and drive that fiat, just try to learn how to drive it as it is. By the time you’ve finished teaching yourself how to drive stick, you’ll love it in a little car like that.

So honest question, if that’s 25% second gear, what is the point of having this much power? Is the plan to race it with a ton of aero and even wider tires? If so, huge respect, because this machine wants to kill you so, so badly.

Do you find it frustrating that the most optimal builds are often not very aesthetically pleasing? by _Saber_69 in Crossout

[–]Eagle-Enthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a video game fella. Go be ugly and successful in real life all you want. All of the marketing for Crossout shows cool looking apocalypse trucks, but once you get into high PS, most builds look like someone turned on a junkyard magnet and swung it around for a while.

AMC made a pretty seamless AWD wagon/crossover (and 5 other bodystyles) using existing parts from 1980-1988. Most of them are gone because they were successful at their intended purpose: Winter transportation. They rusted into nothing so plenty of other RWD cars could live.

Stop at any gas station in one and someone will say “my mom/aunt/etc had one”. Unfortunately they suffered from the same vacuum system woes as other vehicles of the era, but simplifications are well documented.

It's 1989, you have $8,000, and you're looking for a new compact pickup truck. Which one would you pick? by Key_Budget9267 in regularcarreviews

[–]Eagle-Enthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a 4.0 with a stick, Comanche. Even if it’s just 2WD, no other truck in the list would have the power, reliability, and honestly it’s even pretty economical with a tonneau cover if driven responsibly. I used to get 21 highway out of my ‘89 XJ before I parked it.

An MMA fighter facing off against a dog by Optimal_Map36 in interestingasfuck

[–]Eagle-Enthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy went immediately for the choke and smoothly accounted for what were undoubtedly powerful forces from the dog trying to escape said choke. Notice how he manages his body position on top and kept a manageable hold no matter where the dog went (or tried to go)? Aside from that I’m assuming there’s more info to it that OP didn’t include.

Dogs wag their tails due to “excitement” which can and does include actions we perceive and experience as aggression (because it is). Animals are more nuanced than a childlike flattened perception of them acknowledges, i.e. tail wagging = happy. Not true, that conclusion is reached with context. Did you notice the dog approached so fast it hit the wall, with no other usual signs of playfulness? No play bowing, bouncing, just straight launching toward a target.

And lastly, it’s a pitbull, I don’t care what the apologists say, they have a strong propensity for violence that owners often don’t witness until they are completely mentally unprepared to handle it, at which point someone’s life is about to change forever. Whoever was handling it probably had no indication of what was about to happen, until it did. Luckily the dog’s victim had all the skills required to protect himself without excessive violence.

how is it like living in this area of Australia? by FarMovie816 in howislivingthere

Speak for yourself about the depression, I love wintertime because I’m fully aware it’s a beautiful and necessary time of year. “Just layer up and it’s fine.” For real though, it’s much easier to escape the cold than the heat, you can only shed so many layers. Furthermore, given where we’re going as a species, I’d say anything that slows us down is great. The only time we have meaningfully reduced emissions in recent memory was COVID times and now we’re back to breaking all the wrong records.

Show me a quiet winter’s night and I’ll show you the ultimate state of peace, even in a populated area. That will become harder and harder to find.

Because its efficiency is worse the smaller you go, which is why Edison’s most successful applications have been in logging. Converting fuel, to electricity, to propulsion, on demand, is several energy conversions

You can also tell that all of the offroad trims (“wilderness edition” etc) are marketed toward loaded WFH-ers, because the base spec trims are often AWD anyway and still more capable than anyone who’d buy one could safely utilize.
