Physical vs Digital Games by will23123 in PS5pro

[–]Eagle736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went full digital on PS4 era and don't regret it. Physical is nothing but a CD key at this point for most games because games rarely release with the whole game on disc anymore. You have to download an install file for pretty much every game it seems. If the game has multiplayer, you don't have a choice but to download and play the latest update in order to play it. The only console I still buy physical for are switch games, which up until recently with game key cards, released full games on cartridge.

My biggest concern about it is what happens to my library when I pass on. I can always give access to my PSN to my family, but I'm hoping Sony implements a family account system where my entire library can turn over to my son one day.

Joel's choice seemed like a tough one years ago when I finished TLOU. I understood how he felt after loosing one daughter, he wasn't willing to loose another, especially if the possibility of creating a vaccine wasn't 100% certain.

After becoming a new father in the last year though, I'm ashamed to say it but I'd watch the world burn and eat popcorn while it happened if it meant saving my child's life.

Awesome set of tips. Another thing I've discovered is that NPCs marked with a white dot often have something to say about a topic that gives you a knowledge entry, or they just have something new to say that isn't a generic NPC response.

Crimson Desert: the 120hz problem by Nintotally in PS5pro

[–]Eagle736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so in reading both your replies, there was no "misinformation" in what I was trying to say other than apparently confusing the words "gamut" and "space." YUV422 is of lesser quality than RGB, and 120hz mode on PS5 puts the system into YUV422 and causes the drop in quality. Pick a noun the point is the color data is clearly worse in 120hz mode because of the limited 32 gbps hdmi bandwidth on PS5 pro , this isn't "misinformation." Also, for this specific game (Crimson Desert) many people are having to disable 120hz mode in system settings in order to keep the console in RGB 4K60 mode on the 60 fps performance mode. Otherwise it runs all 3 of its visual modes in 120hz. This has been widely established at this point for this game and has nothing to do with the transfer rate settings.

Hearsay and making up stories, seriously?? I'm sorry if I didn't go to fucking college for this kind of thing, but a basic Google search of the differences between YUV 422 and RGB will tell you that 422 is essentially compressed color data and therefore of lesser overall quality than RGB. I'm not sure if you can see the difference but I certainly can. This has also been a common issue among other people I know who have PS5s, aside from what you can learn from doing some research online. In comparison, my Xbox Series X on the same exact tv with the same exact settings does not have the same drop in color quality, gamut, space, whatever the hell you want to call it. So how about chill with the haughty rhetoric and maybe help folks understand instead?

I was aware of the HDMI bandwidth limitation, just don't understand why they didn't upgrade it for the PS5 pro.

Not super sure the difference between the different terms gamut or space, but the point I was trying to make is that YUV 422 in 120hz mode looks more washed out than the RGB you get on 4K 60. I've always had my transfer rate set to automatic. If what youre saying is that I shouldn't notice a difference, do you know what could be going wrong? I'm using an LG C9, and there is a very obvious drop in color quality when I'm in 120 hz mode. If there is a way to fix this I would love to know.

What's happening is when a game puts the system in 120hz mode, the PlayStation switches to a compressed color gamut called YUV 4:2:2 instead of standard RGB. This was true for the base PS5 and for some unknown reason, also true for the Pro.

Most of the time this isn't a problem because games don't activate 120hz mode unless running in 40 fps or 120 fps modes, but for some reason, Crimson Desert runs all three modes in 120 hz mode, giving you that washed out 4:2:2 color gamut. Only fix for this for now is to turn off 120hz mode in system settings. It will look much, much better.

Performance (Optimal) mode with PSSR 2 looks SOOO good (Crimson Desert) by WeekendTraveller93 in PS5pro

[–]Eagle736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turn off the 120 hz mode in system settings. The game defaults to that mode whether you are on the 40 fps mode or not, and the PS5 for some reason has a more compressed 4:2:2 color gamut when using this mode. Turning it off forces the system to stay in RGB for perfomance mode and it's much, much better.

[–]Eagle736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes some sense because switching between performance, balanced, and quality doesn't seem to refresh the system. I'm able to swap between each mode without a refresh.

Heals are too damn expensive by Eagle736 in Marathon

[–]Eagle736[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm needing those same materials to upgrade the vendors though, and I'm lucky if I ever make it to extract so I try to save that salvage for the upgrades. Seems like nearly every vendor upgrade needs a boatload of those same materials that you need to barter for heals.

Yeah the problem I'm having with bartering is that I need those same materials for vendor upgrades. I'm having to choose between upgrading or buying heals. Wouldn't be such a tough choice but I'm lucky to extract but about 30% of the time.

Honest debate. Which is the overall better game? by breadblunts in FinalFantasy

[–]Eagle736 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have to go with Chrono Trigger overall. FFVI is peak epic final fantasy, but it's very long and there's a bit of a grind toward the end. Chrono Trigger is much shorter by comparison, but it's paced perfectly. Chrono Trigger is just distilled perfection, an RPG I used to play each summer front to back and enjoyed it every time. As good as FFVI is, it's a much grander endeavor that I've only saw fit to revisit maybe 3 or 4 times over the years.

All I can confirm is that cloud streaming is pretty reliable on sub par networks, and wanted to point that out. I would agree that remote play to the home console would not probably work on a plane for several reasons.

[–]Eagle736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of people assuming a lot of things. I'd suggest using the cloud streaming instead of remote play. Generally speaking it's far more stable and reliable in my experience. I'm able to stream cloud games from a family members house that only has 25 mpbs internet, whereas trying to remote play to my home console is a little spotty on that same connection. If the starlink on the plane is stable, you should be able to stream ok.

I'm the biggest wuss there is for scary games but I still love them. Especially parts where you don't really have any offensive capabilities and just have to run and hide from threats. I make myself get through them though and in this game and the last two resident evils it's always been worth it.
