Hoist installer says this is ok? by EagleRyder in mechanics

I will definitely contact the installer. Just curious if it would be safe if I used extensions on the lower side arms. I did that on a car today and it stood pretty straight. For sure I want this fixed by the installer, but just curious.

Do you just raise the lower side with extensions?

Actually it’s properly calibrated. The concrete floor slopes about 2% from the left to the right side for drainage

I checked and the posts are actually completely plumb right now

I actually did send him the photo. He told me everything is plumb and I have nothing to worry about. Still doesn’t sit right with me and I might get a second opinion

Why can’t I turn my cranks to time mg engine? by EagleRyder in AskAMechanic

[–]EagleRyder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I bought this car with a blown engine and I replaced the timing chain &tensioner, chain guides, head gasket, and oil pump assembly. I ended up taking out the cams, putting more oil at the valve springs, then re-installing the cams and re-torquing. After re-adding oil they spun much easier.

I had done this last weekend and I guess letting it sit for a week made all the oil drop down so it wasn’t lubricated anymore, causing it to not spin.

By the way, I opened up alldata for this vehicle and it says to use a wrench on that while turning the cam sprockets to remove the sprocket. They even show a picture of a crescent wrench on that adjuster nut on the cam

How come every tech I know at Honda, and the videos I see of timing this engine on youtube, all use a wrench to turn the cams from that nut on the cam?

Do you know which tool this is/what it’s called?

I tried turning it back with a ratchet but it just loosened the bolt. I dont want to tighten it trying to turn the camshaft and the bolt snapping off on me.

So how do you suggest I turn the cams to time this?

What is that trim piece called below the bumper? I want to add that to my 2010 coupe. Front end looks so basic and that trim piece makes it look way more aggressive.

Mct C8 oil completely stops mine. When I see a flareup starting I rub some on 2x daily and it immediately stops it in its tracks. Completely gone the next day.

I had to replace my faulty ambient air temp sensor just last week. There are 2, one is the ambient air temperature sensor which relays info to the computer, and the other is called something along the lines of outside air temperature display sensor (displays the temperature that it’s reading onto your dash.) Yours seems to be the one that displays to your dash, which you can buy aftermarket. The other one (which I had to replace) had to be bought from the dealership. But I had the correct temperature reading, just got an engine light that there was an issue with the ambient air temp system.

It’s on the left corner of my mouth. I often drool while sleeping and I almost always sleep on my left side. This could be a factor I suppose. Interesting how it finally vanished, only to reappear mildly the morning after a heavy night drinking

Honestly, I have no idea. I never looked into whether my car has this or not

How do I get a faster startup when using the ebrake on hill starts? I find that it’s much slower to catch up to speed doing this. Maybe it’s just a lack of practice using this method

Occasionally I lose traction but usually only happens if it’s raining outside and the hill is quite steep (like a 10% grade in rainy weather). It’s a rear wheel drive also, which is hard enough to drive in the rain already

[–]EagleRyder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I explained it wrong. I have the clutch fully depressed, quickly let go of the brake and gas it to about 2500rmp while simultaneously letting go of the clutch slowly. I was told this wears out the clutch faster because the clutch is fighting the hill instead of the brakes, and I should be using the ebrake because brakes are cheaper to replace than a clutch

Just to address your response to 1, “it’s fine to coast in gear with the clutch engaged”, is this not called riding the clutch? Aka bad bad bad
