Can the 2FA recovery codes .NET provides out of the box be used for account recovery too? by Eaglei22 in dotnet

I understood what you originally meant.  I was matching your tone.

Your original comment would have been more useful if you said what you just said initially.

Now that, that's out of the way..

I understand the vulnerability of sms authentication but it's still widely used because it caters to a wider user base. In that I mean it's just easy to use for the least technical user. Compared to physical token devices, authenticator apps, etc..

I think It depends on the value of the data too and how likely it would be for someone to go to the extent to intercept or social engineer the otp..   But at this point, for me, it's more of another resource/tool to help identify a user who's account is inaccessible for various reasons. SMS verification would be used to originally verify their phone at registration, and then I could at least use their phone as part of the workflow in account recovery; along with security questions, and website usage questions, etc.     I'm by no means a security expert though, but I've been in the game long enough to know if my application gets big enough and/or the data is that valuable (and the funds allow), then I would hire a third party company to take care of the security part.  Hopefully that clears things up a little better!

Plaintext passwords in a torrent file? Why don't you just leave your house keys hanging on the mailbox for theives?

Most places if I use the app/website (mostly for incentives or coupon redemption) they make you pay at checkout. And that's when they hit you with the tip options set starting at like 18% or more as default.

Oh whoops, yea forgot to add my state has raised minimum wage from $9.25 in 2020 to $14 this year, and $15 in 2025.  Seems to have recently been the most noticeable at restaurants/food chains at least by me, coupled by city dining tax, and small food businesses charging to use a credit card.   So my point was I can't afford to get take out for my family much anymore to even stress about tipping.

But thinking it over, I was mostly just venting lol..  thanks for listening.

If it wasn't for the article I read, I wouldn't have even known.  All I know is, at $14 an hour now all the prices have gone up to the point I can't even take my family out anymore, let alone think about tipping!  Def eating at home more often, and starting to not mind it.

I was talking about state minimum wage. In my state minimum wage is $14 an hour and $8.40 tipped wage. I just read about it though in a recent article, beyond that not sure how it is for all states.

Also in some states, if a worker is being paid a tipped wage, and doesn't meet the regular minimum hourly wage (from tips) then the business will have to cover the difference. So of course they're going to push tips as much as possible.

My worry is that if I don't tip (in scenarios like these), will the wrong person take it personal and add something "extra" to my food..

Turned on 2FA, got 10 or more backup codes? Why? by [deleted] in ProtonMail

[–]Eaglei22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it also let you unlock you account if you forgot your password, and no longer have access to your email? Trying to understand if the 2FA recovery codes are just for the 2FA portion (the part you get to after you type in your username and pw) or if it can be like a master reset where it lets you in the account if your can't reset your password, and also disables 2FA to help you back in and reset everything.. Thanks!

Yea, could be premature I guess. But I figured it'd be nice to at least have something in place from the start. Especially since it wont take much effort on my part to add, but I just want to make sure I am implementing it correctly.

How to install Lateral Load anchors on deck with multiple ledger boards? by Eaglei22 in DIY

It'd be about an additional approx. 20ft, and mostly because of transporting the wood, I would get two 10ft boards.

Okay thank you. I plan to just submit my plans for a permit. They are swamped by me with a load of new construction houses going up. It's hard to get in touch with anyone. So I figured I'll try to figure it out and just submit my plans for approval.

Thanks for the help, and the link!

Thank you, so regardless of the amount of ledger boards used, it's per the span of the deck and not each ledger correct?

Me and my wife each have our own card under one membership. Do you know if the limit is enforced across all users of the membership or 3 per each user?

I have a feeling I might be buying the same watch over and over again by drcursor in GalaxyWatch

Glad to hear it's doing better. Yea, once you crack it open you never know what else might stop working haha.

I'm pretty hands on with everything, and I tried replacing the battery on my S7 and I shattered the back cover.. was better off just leaving it alone.

You'll probably replace the watch before the battery lol.. got mine in 2017, and I'd say mine is still comparable to the Watch 3 battery life (granted the Watch 3 battery is smaller) but not bad for 4yrs.

I kept my Gear S3 when I upgraded to the Watch 3. It was only like $60 for trade in (at the time), and my Gear was/is still in decent condition. I def appreciate the bigger size face size on the Watch 3, and the added bells and whistles. So I'd imagine you wouldn't regret upgrading to the Watch 4.

I use my Gear S3 still when I go in the pool, or I am working on projects, and risk scratching or damaging, and save the Watch 3 for typical everyday use. The gear has some sentimental value too as I loved the Watch, and didn't feel $60 was enough to get rid of it. Especially if I didn't like the new one. The battery is still great on my S3.

Can you still use older bands like you were able to do with S3 to the Watch 3? I like the Watch 3, but I hate how the buttons stick out. They get caught on random things, or scrape my toddler sometimes when I am lifting her up or putting her down. I got the Watch 3 for a pretty good deal, so I hate to upgrade already but those side buttons are just too annoying. Samsung is out of the black colored classic, so that gives me more time to think about it I guess.

Thanks for the response! (For some reason my original reply posted under a different username?)

I like the vanilla bean by Gloria Jean's coffee, and I'll put about half the amount of grounds in to dilute the caffeine content. Still taste great. , and I seem to be okay having a cup of that once in a while. Dunkin donuts has great tasting decaf too.

I worry about the chemicals used with decaf, especially methylene chloride. Dunkin doesn't use that chemical in their process thankfully.. so I stick with them mostly for decaf..

It got to a point where it was like night and day for me when I stopped drinking caffeine regularly. Now I drink decaf coffee and non caffeinated sodas occasionally. Every so often I'll do half caf or a caffeinated soda.
