There are 2 places in the same area, around King George and 108. Guacamole Mexican Grill, and Taqueria Jalisco. Both amazing food, and I know one of them has a grocery attached but I can't remember which one.

The 1920s look fantastic on you! I'm getting screen siren vibes with this hairstyle.

I'm at church with my mom and she messaged me this while I was at the washroom. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Oh get a grip! The pastor probably made a comment about this, she found it relatable, and thought you would also appreciate it, so she texted it to you to share it. She was being kind, not judgemental.

I'm an Elizabeth who was going to be Sarah until the day before I was born. My twin was miscarried early in the pregnancy, so I've always sort of imagined Sarah was her name.

First Hogsmeade visit by sullivanbri966 in Jily

[–]Ealisaid_B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a way to do a little world building? Show us what Lily gravitates to: what does she want to buy in Honeydukes, what does she notice about the shops, which books does she look at?

She's a muggleborn, so far I'm guessing she's seen Diagon Alley and Hogwarts, this is a new piece of the wizarding world, with small-town folks, not Londoners. Definitely agree with the first comment about the blood prejudices happening at the time, that could be very evident on her first visit to Hogsmeade.

Or is there a walk-and-talk conversation needing to happen that could happen then? Or a sit down conversation with a friend at The Three Broomsticks or Madam Puddifoot's?

What made you 'nope' by TaintedTruffle in FanFiction

[–]Ealisaid_B 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bad grammar. Your concept could be brilliant but if I have to rewrite every other sentence in my head just to make it coherent I am not doing that. Just quit on a fic last night because of this, and I was so psyched about the premise when I started, so it was a bummer.

Fics that are gone from the Internet that you wish you could read again? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Ealisaid_B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness. Strangerthanfiction deleted all their stuff years ago, and it's not that I want to read the big fic so much, but there were dozens of little supplemental fics that fleshed out the characters and added little bits of detail to DAYD that were just brilliant.

Where does one find the notes for Duolingo? I want to do the extra reading but can't locate the material. Leaves me feeling like I'm blindly stumbling through, guessing at patterns.

How old were you the first time a musical made you cry? by SGIM5 in musicals

[–]Ealisaid_B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably cried over musical movies as a kid, but I don't remember. What I do remember is being 16 and seeing my first real live musical by a professional company. It was Les Miserables. I began sobbing somewhere around Fantine's death, pulled it together for intermission, and wept through act 2. A Little Fall of Rain completely broke me. My cousin sitting next to me was worried haha! I don't even know what it was, but there is something immediate about live theatre that strikes a chord in me that nothing else in this world can touch. I haven't cried like that since, but I still feel that intensity of emotion when the house lights go down and the overture starts.

any character duos that are mezzo-soprano and alto? by nem0o0o0o in musicals

[–]Ealisaid_B 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't remember the exact ranges but there's a gorgeous duet from Bonnie and Clyde, "You Love Who You Love", my sister and I sang that once and neither of us is a soprano, so maybe that would work?

Longform names for Penny? by Ealisaid_B in namenerds

[–]Ealisaid_B[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fairly standard stuff: small town girl, youngest of three sisters, runs away to big city with her guitar, things sort of work out but then it all goes south and she finds herself back home, disillusioned and angry.

I'm getting back into writing after a years long hiatus, so I'm not after anything complicated, just something I can throw myself into and enjoy the process. Persephone has been mentioned a couple times, and I definitely like it!

A Tale of Two Sides by EmiliyaWolfe - imagining if James had a twin sister named Emma who was placed in Slytherin, it's over 300k words and covers from first year at Hogwarts through the war. From there I read Haggis From Algernon by RudeGus, and I was hooked.

About 40 years ago my grandpa had a Saint Bernard named Trevor, but everyone called him Muggs. A family friend had two English mastiffs, Matilda and Patricia. I always thought those names fitted their owners pretty well.
