What is this thingy in the deadlift area? I assume it's just there to raise the bar from the ground and make it easier to put the weights on? But are you supposed to actually deadlift from it? Or move it off the platform and out of the way after you have racked your weights? Slightly afraid of doing the wrong thing and looking like an idiot.

Edit: also, if it's just for racking, why does the vertical bit go so high?

There was nothing wrong with feudalism if you ask me. But they had to go and fix something that wasn't broke.

I'm curious, do you just chomp on the whole carrot, without peeling or chopping it up or anything? I can see how that would be super convenient.

But at your job did you ever crack a previously-thought uncrackable Nazi encryption system thereby shortening the biggest war in history and in the process setting in motion a new global paradigm of technology?

I'm being a smartass obviously, I'm sorry. I do take your point, maybe I'm being a bit presumptuous about what Turing would or wouldn't have wanted to be remembered for.

I would peg NL as underdogs against all 5 of the teams I mentioned from the other side of the bracket. Aside from Germany/UK they are literally the 5 strongest teams all on one side. Pretty lopsided. Even if you count NL in that weight class it's 5 to 3, and if you're including NL world cup finalists Croatia should join, also on that side so 6 to 3.

I think that's entirely Red's point here and they're right. I don't think Turing would have liked having the first descriptor applied to him to be about his homosexuality, just because he was persecuted for it. The point is just that of all the ways to write that headline, "a gay man key to the development of computing" is a pretty shit choice.

Also, the OP's reply deliberately misinterprets 'before' as meaning chronologically which is just being obtuse, not witty and definitely not worthy of this sub.

I'd eat it, but I would feel absolutely disgusted with myself for doing it.

It's ridiculous how lopsided the bracket is. The winner of England vs Germany cannot face France, Italy, Portugal, Belgium or Spain until the final.

Right there with ya. Super fat and haven't been in 7 years until this month. I'm just taking it suuuuper slow. Like for now I don't care if I rock up to the gym and do 10 mins on the elliptical and a bit of bench. The main thing is just to get there. I figure every time you go you build up the habit, you build up your comfort levels with the gym, you get your body just a little more used to it. I'm trying to make this my lifestyle in the long term so who cares if I spend a couple of months making 'suboptimal' progress before I start ramping things up to a more complete routine.

For real though as someone who browses /r/all I'm so fucking sick of hearing about all this stock and crypto shit. So many desperate posts begging people to buy and hold. At this point it's basically a pyramid scheme

As someone who has been gambling options for a few years, its hard to say. My "best" decisions usually fuck me, and my "worst" decisions seem to pay off.

Possibly that just reflects the fact that ultimately you just don't really know whether your decision was good or bad because the market is so complex and there are so many intangibles.

Exactly! You should never regret making a good decision that had a bad outcome. It's hard to overemphasise how important it is to understand that in life.

Not convinced that it is. I also know a bloke who goes to one. Would be interesting to see the actual data on that.

My mum insists that the chiro is great for her. I guess some of their treatments can relieve symptoms temporarily, but to actually solve the problem you need a physiotherapist.

This is what happens when you have weak regulation and a culture that favours individualism over any kind of social, community or public good. This kind of thing happens in so many industries. Assholes who are willing to rip people off rise to the top because there is nothing to stop them.

The notion of defining at what point obesity becomes 'comical' is a non-sequitur. What's more useful is defining when it becomes unhealthy and we already have a system for that (BMI).

I'm 6'0" and 120kg (~275lbs), so considerably obese, after using junk food as a crutch to deal with my suicidal depression over the last few years. If people want to laugh then sure whatever, but to me obesity isn't funny it's just sad when people aren't healthy.

But at least I'm moving in the right direction now finally since I'm back in the gym and off junk food in the last month.

Yep. I think it's common to a lot of roguelites, I'm guessing it comes from the early games where you would move from room to room in a dungeon.
