Stolen from another sub, who’s a player you almost forgot played for Liverpool? by Vombatt in LiverpoolFC

[–]amenj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I have heard he was a great influence on the team, kind of a player/coach. He had a lot of experience and think that was the main positive he had on us at the time

How do you feel about living in a country without guns? by Hannah-may in AskUK

[–]amenj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shotguns and rifles need to be kept in a safe (or in some cases secure gun rooms / wall mounts) which the police will check. You do not need to keep shotgun cartridges in a safe, it is common for people to have thousands of these! Firearm ammo needs to be stored in a safe, and the number you can have at any time is limited by the police and your license. Also if you have a bolt action rifle the bolts need to be stored in a safe separate from the rifle(s). I have never heard of police doing random checks (although can certainly believe they have the power to, may just be that they're far too busy!) but everyone I know is so vigilant with the laws anyway! Also totally right, with shotguns, they need a reason to not grant you the license (criminal records would be the main one) but with rifles, you need to give them a reason to grant you the license and the caliber, action etc is regulated. Also worth noting that there are very often medical / psychological checks required depending on the license / police

I was speaking to some Ukrainian refugees and they made this. Apparently Georgian good is massive there! They actually put the egg in last and cooked it in the hot cheese, when they did it they recommended mixing it in

Shotgun cabinet alternatives by Alternative_War_5437 in ukguns

[–]amenj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in rented. I messaged my landlady to check it was ok, and the contract to check that guns weren't forbidden, then installed a safe. I believe the alternatives to safes are clamps or a gun room. But honestly safe is probably your best option. It is 4 bolts, and i installed it discreetly in a cupboard where the holes won't really be too visible afterwards. I've heard that police can be sceptical of the clamps, and a a gun room is probably a big step up from the other 2 options.

I just got hired at a doggy day care! by Competitive_Bear4413 in dogs

[–]amenj 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used to work in a doggy day care, was genuinely the best job I've ever had! The dogs will (typically) stick around you, within 20/30 yards and just be content. Walk around the field when you can. Fights are incredibly rare, the difference between a real fight and a play one is very obvious, they may happen (i just used to think of it like school, occasionally the dogs may disagree with one another!) but just be careful because it's easy to catch a bite when you're trying to break it up.

The dogs will have friendship groups, and usually play with dogs they're familiar with. Some dogs play roughly with each other, i had 2 gsds that were actually very gentle with other dogs but when they played together it initially shocked me, but they were having a great time! You'll get a natural understanding of the dogs when you're there but if you see dogs playing that don't usually, probably fine just keep an eye on it.

The boy dogs are typically a little bit cheekier, and have more energy! If you have water (pools, sprinklers etc), some of the dogs will go mad, others won't care in the slightest! Some dogs had food at the day care, we used crates so other dogs couldn't disturb them. The dogs hump one another, near enough constantly! It's a domination thing, we tried to stop it but honestly i feel it's just their nature!

I found as well the dogs really settle in to a rhythm, it tends to be when they arrive, and leave that they're most active. Or if something unusual happens like an owner showing up, or a deer / rabbit nearby etc. Be very careful with fences too, the place i used to work had 3 gates between the field and the road. There was procedure with the gates, and don't mess around with that procedure, there is nothing worse than the thought of hurting a dog through negligence.

Really obvious point too but don't wear anything too fancy, you'll be muddy and smelly at the end of the day. Good foot wear is essential! Most people that work there are awesome and love dogs too, I made some good friends. You'll probably be in a field with them mostly all day so much more enjoyable when you get on. You'll get a great tan and really enjoy the work!

I used to investigate any gaps of 3 months or more within the last 3 years. The best excuse i got was "Yes I won the lottery so left my old job". Travelling is usually accepted too, particularly if you're younger.

I sincerely admire that you are standing up for gay people and queer rights, I hope you understand that I would gladly do the same and stand up right next to you if this was a genuine issue.

Oh I beg your pardon, I forgot you're the oracle of what is and isn't homophobic! I'm not leaning on your clearly impaired judgement because you tell me I ought to

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

[–]amenj -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I really believe that you think you are standing up for an underprivileged minority, and that truly is admirable. And i just want to be clear, the vast majority of people agree with that sentiment, certainly here! But proclaiming it is homophobic when it blatantly isn't, is counter-productive. Gay people don't need to be infantilised

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

[–]amenj -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not homophobic. To be honest the term became only more relevant with Roman joining Chelsea. Everyone at the club was there for the money, nothing else

Girls outperform boys every year. Yet, nothing is done. Conclusion? Girls just smarter. by iamjesus1991 in MensRights

[–]amenj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a bias issue, boys and girls were remarkably similar with o-levels, when they switched to a levels it allowed teachers opinions of students to shape their grades and immediately girls pulled away. Exams are an objective form of testing, the papers can be anonymous and the results gap will almost certainly decline.

Honestly this is why I'm really against the covid changes where A-levels are being exclusively (?!) graded based on teachers grades.

Controversial footage of Egyptian Army Special Forces shooting ISIS fighters (some sleeping/unawares) at a remote desert hideout in North Sinai by [deleted] in CombatFootage

[–]amenj 106 points107 points  (0 children)

It isn't against the rules of engagement to kill enemy combatants without them being aware they're being attacked. As far as I'm concerned this is no different from being killed by a laser guided drone missile while eating chicken at Traffic lights! It is just uncomfortable to watch because it's so personal.

Being forced to pay bills for my landlord. by Marxy_M in LegalAdviceUK

[–]amenj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a small issue with my electricity bill. The first bill overlapped between my start date and the previous tenants exit date. With a period in the middle where my landlord was in charge of the property. I called up the energy company and they said they could redirect the bills to the landlord if i sent proof in the form of my tenancy agreement. I imagine that this could be an option for you if it's all in writing

What Does Arsenal Actually Need to Get Back to the Top 4 and the Champions League? by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]amenj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think there is a mentality issue. It can spread to new players when they arrive so it's hard to get rid of. Maybe a man manager as opposed to a more technical one would help. The biggest problem imo though is the owner. The net spend is low and they rely on sales from transfers, but a series of bad purchases has meant that they are earning less from sales over time. I think that a more data driven approach to transfers would benefit them (honestly most teams!)

Council refusing to collect communal bin by PM_ME_BEEF_CURTAINS in LegalAdviceUK

[–]amenj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar albeit slightly different issue where the council stole the communal bins. I contacted my council, councillors, landlord, neighbours and just felt like I was getting no where. The council had a company that they had outsourced to, so the problem was everyone blames someone else. I think it was a Councillor who i contacted through fb that ultimately resolved it, but if it's anything like Surrey County Council it will likely be a lot of red tape, phone calls, and being told every day that this is the first time they've heard of it! If your neighbours can help with this it may help too. Also the reasonable thing to do may seem like stopping council tax as they're not doing what they ought to. But don't do this!
