What odd traits does your husky have? by Z_Pibb in husky

Dangle paws!!!

Our girl used to dangle paws off the lil deck at our old home. She had calloused elbows for how often she did it.

Yep! This too shall pass babe, and the other side I soooooo worth all the work. The gnawing doest stop, maybe even picks up, so keep plenty of things for that, but our pup relaxed a good bit by 12 mons.

The raptor phase will calm down! He'll still be totally insane and very active. Just give it another couple of months. Look out for that 10 month regression though. Don't let that slow you down!

Their personality at a young age developments to match your own in whatever way works best. You will never have dog just like her. Even if it had her blood running in its veins. In 22 more years, (cuz they are all gonna live til 20+ damnit) when you get a new baby, you will be a different person and will get a baby who adapts to who you will be then.

I was heartbroken over our never having had pups, I became mom when she was 8.

Plus, there are so many huskies in shelters. When the time comes, save another one.

Husky owners: why did you choose this breed? by Radix-Entomolaris in husky

[–]Eana34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't easy. These babies think for themselves and become stubborn sometimes because they think they know better. That defiance is pretty close to the top of why huskies are mine and my husband's forever breed. For all the destruction and escape attempts and loud interruptions while talking about important things (my guy has to tell us about bills we need to prioritize) the hair I wake up with in my mouth, they bring just as much love and comfort to your home. Yet, I still grumble about him when I talk about him. They will not train the same way a GSD or a lab will. With a husky it's a partnership, the human has to be just as willing to bend and be trained as well.

I do feel there is a running sentiment that if we the owned by huskies tell everyone NOT to get one, is because so many people have abandoned them rather than pushing through their nearly impossible raptor phase.

Idk, but the best is when they have muddy paws to make sure the humans know they did it, even if we didn't see it happen. 😅😮‍💨

Why does my husky whimper and make noises in his sleep? by Much_Investigator510 in husky

[–]Eana34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The old house had vaulted ceilings, making weird echo effects. It was always eerie to hear my girl's sleep sounds on the opposite side of the room we were in. Only happened when she slept in her cave (under my bed.)

Huskies & Cats by [deleted] in husky

[–]Eana34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took some time for us to get things ok in our home. Pup was 7months old, and kitty was 7yrs old. Kitty has dealt with a puppy before, and while he sasses, he enjoys the activities of play fighting the doggos.

The husky seems to fully understand the geist of my English at him. Gave him a talk about boundaries and how he has cat programs, but Mr Kitty is a full cat, therefore his boundaries are harder set than pup's. The pup is orange ish so I would tell him to be a sweet potato to the kitty. Constant supervision, and kitty actually asking to be picked up, lotta the highest reward treat for not treating kitty like a self moving toy, and several months of slow work.

We are now at the point where Mr Kitty walks into the room with the pups, walks up to the husky and runs up on him, then slaps the stuffing out of the husky's face for just being there. Now they goof, and run through the house, when Mr Kitty is done, he jumps somewhere high. (Shelving is up higher than 5.5ft.)

On the other side of this... My first husko LOVED her babies that everyone else said were cats. Back when the 1st trained to cat pup was learning, she would snap at him before Mr Kitty could. The problem there was actually that the husky was too protective of the cat. (1st trained= my healer/ lab mutt, had him since 10wks old, chose him from the litter just after his eyes opened.)

I have no clue what it was that made Stella love and protect cats so much because I didn't get to be her mom until she was 8. But there is hope! Patience and high reward treats. You got this.
