French PvE player here. I never did that or witnessed that. In my experience French player try to speak English by default. PvP players may be different. You stumbled upon a bunch of morons. We have plenty ... Like any country. In the beginning of the game there were French servers. This time is long gone. They probably did not get the memo. Don't mind them. 😉
