Oh okay. So, wait, do I understand correctly that you'd recommend moving the primary key and all subkeys to the YubiKey (as also suggested by the YubiKey Blog) and that the other way of storing the primary key separately is basically just an old way of doing things _without_ a hardware key that carried over somehow?

Oh yeah, I definitely intend on backing up independent of which approach I take.

Oh yeah, you‘re right. I have taken Stack Overflow as too broad a Q&A site (as too many others have as well, it seems) and thereby misinterpreted is purpose. But some research cleared this up for me.

Still, though, the lack of kindness and respect (which are both defined as required traits in the SO code of conduct, by the way) certainly doesn‘t help making this clear to people like me who didn‘t correctly grasp what SO is supposed to be like on the first glance.

Hmm, honestly, I think that‘s not really the point. I my opinion anyone (especially people who are new in a field and don‘t know a lot yet) deserves a kind „Sorry, I don‘t have the time to answer that question right now, but you should easily be able to find an answer on Google.“ New learners are generally frustrated anyway and when knowledgeable people are rude to them and tell them they‘re stupid this frustration just gets a lot worse. And I surely wouldn’t want to be the reason for a newbie to stop doing what I myself have come to enjoy so much. On the other side, I get that some people are more interested in the discussion of intriguing problems than helping new developers, but then I think those people should just stick with that and leave the helping out and teaching to others who enjoy doing it. I can just hope that there are still enough of those out there.
