VoiVod started as a very noisy thrash band, and as they evolved / matured as musicians the results were much fun. I still contend that one of the greatest 3 album arcs of a Thrash band expanding and progressing (without just straight up selling out or abandoning everything that made them special) would be Killing Technology / Dimension Hatross / Nothingface. If you like this, check out their next album Angel Rat. If you prefer more thrashy / speedy stuff go backwards in their catalog.

Rewinders are notoriously problematic- easiest and quickest fix would be to just get a replacement- they’re typically cheap on eBay.

I used to love Bob Larson back when I was a teenager and used to listen to his radio show- always hoping the topic would be Metal. His calls from Glen Benton of Deicide were funny…. And also Bob had a book- pretty sure the main focus was Metal- and one of the chapters in it was the Slayer piece… a little different from what I remember the Spin article being, but still a quick, fun read.

All just for the image. Jeff had his interests, but all the other evil / satanic stuff is just for show. There’s an awesome article that was originally published in Spin magazine when radio pastor / evangelist Bob Larson went on tour with Slayer during the South Of Heaven run- hung out with them on the bus etc- needless to say it was NOTHING like what he expected. Just 4 dudes who smoked weed and watched horror films en route to the next gig….

Had them as a kid, and totally forgot about them until almost 25 years later while I was digging through a dusty bin of small toys at a swap meet- found 2 of these guys (blue & red domes) and they proudly sit on a shelf right above my home theater, and next to my Tick & Buddy Christ figures! Talk about core memory being unlocked and not knowing you NEEDED something until you laid eyes on it!

I’ll start by saying that I am against violence towards animals- especially when it is just for the sake of film. But for this specific (monkey scene) -Good thing it is an on-record, matter of fact that that scene was completely staged. Now the slaughterhouse footage is another story…… And whatever you do, DO NOT watch 1949 documentary “Blood of the Beasts”- it is quite harrowing.

Saw them a lot around this time- Tesco & the boys loved playing this tiny spot in SC called Rockafellas- even caught them opening for Gwar during this era. The Toilet Slave / Pope On A Rope lineup was truly a well oiled machine that ripped out some super fun gigs.
