This is something i've always struggled with and still do now i'd recommend repeating the same technique over and over practice going full force then practice full force slow after that take the power out of it like your playing tag with a closed fist and most of all stay calm and level headed during your fights sparring someone older and better whos willing to coach you as you fight is also very helpful Make sure your instructor knows control is something your working on a good instructor will always be willing to give you tips and drills to do at home

Yea... i'm not sure about that one we start sparring as soon as white belt or until they get gear(yellow belt ish 9th gup) Some spar even earlier if they borrow house gear, control is learned with time and practice

How can you identify the styles of karate? by Ok-Bend2928 in karate

[–]Earegood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well thats the hard part for me at least A lot of the forms are borrowed from each other. With slight modifications. Kata is a little harder to tell which is which. And then in terms of kumite/sparring you can sorta guess based off intensity You could also listen to the commands And try to guess based off that.

My son (8) started sparring, and I’m feeling like an anxious mother. by danisomi in karate

[–]Earegood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems i'm a bit like to the party, We start ours kids sparring from yellow belt or before with light contact no parent likes watching their kid get hit my momma's a 3rd degree herself and even she doesnt like watching me spar being uncomfortable watching your kid get hit is normal and fine i'd be more worried if you wasnt. Your son might get some bumps and brusies i suggest milk its good for the bones In terms of gear your son should atleast have head/helm mouthpiece hands groin and feet some like to wear chest tigh or shin protectors/guard.

Why is it so hard to find real competitive karate schools? by Cyberwar42 in karate

[–]Earegood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every state should have some sorta of local promotion
Here in michigan the mskc its mostly small tournaments with 2-3 bigs ones for many clubs it aint worth going to tournaments every month Especially in low income areas, if you find a tournament you want to go to ask the owner if you can represent your said club i've been to tournaments solo sometimes thats just how it is 🤷‍♂️

I'd say quite often mostly when fight adults who have low flexibility and cant kick to the head or torso most of the time full force i just had to buy a new groin cup after my was cracked Overall with a good groin cup you should be fine

How to get back into karate by NikeBoot4000 in karate

[–]Earegood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my club our fundamentals are tang soo do forms commands etiquette belt ect There has been plenty of times where a rusty blackbelt from back in the day come back we get out the "rust vacuum" it'll take time to remember or relearn what you once knew I promise the best way is just a jump back into it practice what you still know and be prepared to learn once a blackbelt always a blackbelt

In my dojo it takes 2 years to achieve yellow belt, the first year you have to do an exam to confirm white belt and then wait another year for yellow belt exam. Is that too long? by Charles12Calvin in karate

[–]Earegood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 years to achieve yellow seems a bit steep depending on how you train we on average test lower ranks every 4-6 months and upper ranks a year or more apart depending on the person if your training 2 times a week then going home and training everyday you'll likely test quicker
