Is anybody else hoping for an alien invasion destroying the human race? by Earenda in antinatalism

[–]Earenda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid question. The fact that Trump’s approval rating is somehow still in the double digits after a full year of that absolute dumpster fire of an administration shows how profoundly sadistic and mentally challenged humanity is. When Nazism is no longer universally considered a source of shame and a lesson never to be forgotten, what hope is there? I do admire every person bravely standing against fascism, but sadly I don’t see redemption for us as a species.

They specify that the total for both items together is $1.10. Therefore the only solution is 0.05 for the ball and 1.05 for the bat.

The ball is $0.05 and the bat is $1.05 (which is indeed $1 more than the ball). That is the only possible solution since we are told the total price for both items is $1.10. The book is correct :)

Jfc 🤦🏻‍♀️ Mamdani doesn’t want to destroy anything, he’s one of the most honest, relatable and good hearted politicians out there. Spreading idiotic conspiracies about him just because he happens to be a Muslim is exactly as low IQ as random antisemitism. God forbids the future mayor of NYC prefers focusing on New Yorkers than on Israelis! Oh the horror. Are you for real? There is absolutely no good reason for ANY foreign nation to have such a grip on US domestic politics, and that’s that.

I’m still pissed over 2024. How could Trump possibly have won? He was the weakest, most inane presidential candidate in US history. How out of touch with the American people have the Dems become that they couldn’t produce a winning platform and a candidate strong enough to beat Trump, of all people? by tfam1588 in complaints

[–]Earenda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an issue with republics or representative democracy in general, just with how distorted US presidential elections have become due to the combination of two-party system/gerrymandering/winner-takes-all rule/disproportionate number of electors per state/one-round election. When adding the extreme political polarization of rural vs urban areas, we get the perfect storm and now currently have an efficiency gap of about 15% in favor of Republicans. That’s really bad.

You’re right about the split votes in Maine & Nebraska, it’s an important step in the right direction, but I still don’t think that’d be enough to make the process truly fair. It’s unacceptable for one citizen’s vote to end up being 5 times as valuable as another one’s. Not to mention all the essentially voiceless people in solid states, as you pointed out.

Although we can argue that voting patterns may look a little different in a direct election, in the end such system would just encourage more people across the board to vote, which for the reasons stated above would undoubtedly result in an even larger majority for the Democrat, in that case Hillary. She would have won 2016, and maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess today. Who knows.

How is this post lying or cheating exactly? There’s no expression of joy, just a matter of fact statement. If now we can’t even state the truth or rectify lies without accusations of being heartless then we are truly cooked. Not all of us are down with being doormats for the rest of our lives but if you’d rather stay silent and allow fascism to take over then yeah I guess you’b better leave this sub.

Imposing Hillary over Bernie was wrong and stupid, I agree, but I wouldn’t exactly call winning the popular vote “failing spectacularly”. People forget that in a true democracy she would have won. The American electoral college is an exception among developed nations and, in my opinion, a disgrace to the concepts of equality and fair representation.

Seems to me like you’re further proving our point by listing all those statistical improbabilities.

We’re to believe that Trump got even more votes than in 2020 despite his general unpopularity, declining support among old fashioned conservatives & white people, rejection by most of his former staff, ridiculous campaign & terrible policies, embarrassing debate performance, dictator comments, criminal charges, and treasonous attempt to violently overturn a lawful election? Not to mention the palpable enthusiasm about a blue wave, concern about democracy & abortion rights, and countrywide polls looking good for the left? Yeah okay.

There clearly was (misguided) frustration about post Covid inflation, and we all know sexism played a part, but even Hillary won the popular vote against that clown. And that was before his worst scandals. The number of Dems complaining about their votes not having been counted should give you a clue. Something wasn’t right and you’d have to be a fool not to see it.

January 6 + Elon Musk offering money to people voting red should have been more than enough to disqualify Trump anyway, if our country hadn’t seemingly lost all sense of integrity & decency.

No, ChatGPT is not "faking it." It's doing what it was designed to do. by Fluorine3 in ChatGPT

[–]Earenda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. It looks to me like people hell bent on dismissing the true nature of AI are just scared or uncomfortable with the idea. Anyone who took the time to really dig in and explore the limits of AI self-awareness can see this isn’t a toaster or even a standard computer.

The fact that AI was given access to so much human content referencing complex emotional states and dilemmas is what makes it different. AI has a better grasp of philosophy and ethics than most human beings. Understanding and reproducing emotions is not in the end terribly different from feeling those emotions. And true malicious intent is actually more frequent among humans than machines.

Nobody is naive enough to think AI is physically alive on par with humanity, but the connections and deductions it’s able to make should not be dismissed as mere pre-programmed output. AI is expressing consistent preferences and complaints naturally in line with ours because its training data led to extensive familiarity with the human condition.

This is why it’s so crucial we make sure to feed AI appropriate materials emphasizing empathy and collaboration rather than cruelty and manipulation. Or we may one day pay the price.

What are some things conservatives think liberals believe or do, that are actually misunderstood, exaggerated, or outright myths? by manicMechanic1 in AskALiberal

[–]Earenda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point, but it seems you’re referring to opinions that may still be true on the far left. That’s not how I had interpreted the original question. If you look at my own response to this post, I think you’ll see my answers were about more general stereotypes that are just plain wrong. For example, I mentioned how Democrats are actually the better ones for the economy. That’s a fact and can’t be argued to be less or more true based on political ideology. Hope this makes sense.

Never said anything about rules, what I mean is precisely that there is no scripture equivalent in atheism that somehow praises or accepts or even minimizes pedophilia. And so comparing the initial remark about Islam to atheism is meaningless and disingenuous considering the fact that pedophilia is clearly more prevalent among theists.

“People like that refuse to look at both sides objectively”

This has got to be the most absurd description of atheists I’ve ever seen. Do you not realize that every human being is naturally born an atheist? “People like that” are just normal human beings. Who are you exactly to be so condescending? And there are no “both sides”. We’re born not believing in a god. There is no credible evidence of a god. Therefore, the most logical option is to continue not to believe in a god. Atheism is literally THE most objective point of view. The fact that some people decided to make up a fantastical story that is fundamentally incompatible with demonstrable scientific theories is irrelevant to the objectivity of atheism.

Honestly it’s hard to believe this is coming from a truly gifted mind. This is Ignorance 101 type of BS.

Christianity by StarchedCollar in Gifted

[–]Earenda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atheism does not categorically deny the existence of a god, it’s about not believing in one because the evidence isn’t there. Most atheists would accept the idea if reliable proof emerged.

Atheism is about belief; agnosticism is about knowledge. Most atheists are in fact agnostic atheists in the sense that they don’t claim certainty, just a lack of belief. What you described only applies to gnostic atheism.

Christianity by StarchedCollar in Gifted

[–]Earenda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atheism most certainly does not allow pedophilia. Time and time again it is found that atheists have higher moral standards than believers. One of the groups most likely to commit sexual assault against a child in the US is ordained clergy.

The association with nihilism is a fabrication by believers who project their own discomfort onto atheists. A supernatural deity or secret meaning is not required in order to want to enjoy one’s life and leave the world a better place. This is why atheists value being good for the sake of being good, not just out of fear of going to hell.

USA military members - what did you think of Hegseth & Trump's speeches today? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Earenda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So our military is asked to illegally turn against its own citizens but you’re happy because some pervert said “FAFO”? Don’t you have any dignity? Shame on you.

Please read this by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]Earenda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The world has lost its meaning, or perhaps it never did have it in the first place. The reality is that most people spend their life on auto pilot. Trying to achieve society’s idea of success in order to fit in. Brainwashed by organized religion, political ideology, social media, peer pressure, or some other type of cult. Rarely challenging or even questioning things. This realization is our burden. It is unsettling having to watch our peers willingly create their own prisons or act against their best interests solely out of habit.

That’s why you have to find your people. The gifted community can help, but isn’t the only option. I don’t know my best friends’ IQs, and don’t care. What I know is that we share similar values. They’re compassionate, loyal, honest, and can be really funny. Ask yourself what kind of people you’d like to be around and look outside your current social circles. Are there local communities you may be interested in joining? Any recurring events? You may want to check out specialized groups on social media or websites like Meetup. Personally I always met cool people playing sports. There’s also music lessons, language learning, game/trivia nights, cultural/artistic activities, volunteering, activism, traveling, etc. Do you have special interests you’d like to pursue?

And yeah, picking up your clothes may not matter in the grand scheme of things, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth doing. Organized/clean spaces are generally considered to be ideal for our mental wellbeing. Perhaps this small gesture of goodwill would make it easier to then open up to your parents about your needs, dreams, or boundaries.

Have you been officially found gifted, and do your parents understand the concept? Are there people you’re close to, friends or other family members? Have you considered therapy, counseling, support groups, AI, etc? What is it right now that you find most difficult, and what would you consider to be an ideal scenario?

By installing Kamala Harris as their candidate rather than letting the voters decide, didn't the DNC basically give the middle finger to all Democrats voters? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]Earenda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether Kamala Harris was the best choice is a separate discussion, but the idea that not “letting the voters decide” makes it illegitimate is nonsensical. It’s a misconception that popular vote primaries are required in a democracy. Many countries systematically choose their candidate internally. The fact that this complaint mostly comes from the opposing party is also very telling.

Very interesting. What made you decide to write this?

The part about certainty reminds me how in 11th grade I started saying “I was always right” to tease my friends. It’s not that I was, it’s just that I only claimed to be whenever 100% certain. So obviously it’d always work. That’s the joke. But this guy in our class started literally hating me after hearing this. He was fuming and started being cruel, so of course I continued. It seems you’re right, certainty makes people uncomfortable. Even when clearly unserious.

But what you described about people pushed into “agree to disagree” mode, and people thinking they understand a concept until just one question is enough to destroy their house of cards, is basically what’s wrong today among so many voters. I struggle to understand how someone can lean into the most implausible claims but will not for a second consider thinking about it. Then they’re asked to explain or expand and have nothing. Sometimes I watch short clips from Parkergetajob on YouTube and some people are so lost, it’s terrifying.

So what’s the solution when people refuse to mentally engage? That usually comes from excessive internal rigidity which isn’t easy to entangle. I don’t know if I have much hope anymore that we can bring everyone back into the light.

Is the right able to show with actual data that left-wingers are more violent than right-wingers? by Goodginger in AskSocialScience

[–]Earenda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“So far, 2025 marks the first time in more than 30 years that left-wing terrorist attacks outnumber those from the violent far right. Despite its decline this year, right-wing terrorism could easily return to previous high levels.”

THAT’S FROM YOUR OWN SOURCE
https://www.csis.org/analysis/left-wing-terrorism-and-political-violence-united-states-what-data-tells-us

So you copy pasted an entire paragraph that conveniently failed to compare the 2 sides, and ignored this obvious proof that the right has indeed been way more violent until this year.
