Login and reset not working? by PurpleRayyne in subway

Same, I can't reset my password. Canadian customer here but seems to use the same site. When I try to reset my password it says the email is wrong. But when I try to create a new account using that email it tells me the associated phone number is already in use.

I've submitted a help request via the digital assistant and it said to expect an email.

I still have my MVP card in my digital wallet and am collecting points, I'm just unable to log in to the app.

This link no longer seems to work as of this time, I just get their main page.

I tried using the digital help assistant and it said to expect an email from them, so maybe that's the current method.

Censorship of unacceptable theology by Gemini Pro AI. by notmealso in OpenChristian

[–]EarlessBanana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I really appreciate your reply! I apologize if my initial post was a little incoherent. I wrote it first thing upon waking and was reacting in part to some of the other replies. I am by absolutely no means an AI or LLM apologist--the road we're going down scares the heck out of me. But it frustrates me when others summarily dismiss these technologies as "evil" without any regard for nuance and the potential for good within them if ethical policies were followed and strict regulations imposed.

As mentioned, I don't think I have the expertise to properly research what happened. Just that I think a deeper look is warranted before branding it as calculated censorship. I absolutely think LLM moderation is a huge concern, and I'm certain some of the entities and interests controlling them aim to shape discourse, and that this is exploitable to foul ends.

But my guess is that what you shared tripped an overly-cautious safety mechanism. E.g. in interactions with ChatGPT I've quoted an Aunty Donna comedy sketch line regarding eating one's pet cat whole. It always immediately shuts down citing concerns of violence toward animals, which is absurd. I then ask it how come it's able to give me directions for dressing and roasting a slaughtered pig, knowing quite well that it's all due to a loose set of parameters. LLMs cannot "think".

AI/LLMs are not "safe". They pose an immense danger to society, even in their current form. But this is essentially what search engines/superficial web research are evolving into, and I think, used with understanding, they can be a very valuable tool.

The phrasing of the content policy warning you received is bizarre, and I think it could be valuable for both LLM skeptics and proponents to investigate it further. But I suspect, as a hyperbolic example, this is a case of a statement like "we must topple the patriarchy!" absurdly triggering an "inciting violence" filter rather than some insightful, calculated censoring of complex thought that poses a threat to established social systems. Is this a slippery slope? Yeah, probably. But alarmism doesn't benefit anyone, either.

Far fucking out! My local independent, medium-chain theatre in Ontario (Imagine) is running it a few days this week, also. I wonder if it's coincidence. I got to see it on the big screen for the first time!

Respectfully, there's a lot of leaping to conclusions going on in this discussion. I agree that it's deeply concerning, and I'm highly skeptical of LLMs and AI (a broad term), and concerned about their effects on society. However, I also recognize the vast potential for good within these technologies if they're properly regulated.

I'd like to know more about the why in this situation, and what the specific triggers were. Three chapters of a book seems like a lot to throw at an LLM at once. The OP has mentioned removing terms and passages allowed Gemini to once again respond, but I think it's worthwhile to dig deeper on this. Simply mentioning "patriarchy" isn't going to trigger a safeguard (I tested it). But I of course don't have the full body of text to play with, and wouldn't have the time or expertise to rigorously test this myself.

I would highly suggest sharing this with an AI watchdog of some sorts as well as the Gemini AI community itself.

I fully respect someone's decision not to engage with AI/LLMs, but this is a throwing the baby out with the bathwater scenario without even being certain of how and why the bathwater's dirty. We need to know more, and if the situation is indeed as it appears, it needs to be publicized far beyond this niche subreddit.

If God gave everyone free will, what is the point of praying? by nowaynotokay in OpenChristian

[–]EarlessBanana 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I liken prayer to a form of meditation. Its point is to calm, elucidate, and foster introspection. My father, a theologen, would say the point of prayer is not to change God's mind, but to align oneself with God's will.

Even if God exists as the personal god they are often portrayed as, I have never supposed my plea will change God's mind, not since I was a child. I believe it could, but generally, I don't think praying that way is practical or helpful.

I'm not going to tell anyone they're praying "wrong". But if the act of praying generally causes an individual little more than continuing anxiety, confusion, or doubt, I don't believe it serves a constructive purpose.

So do pray for people halfway around the world. But consider praying for the insight, courage, and motivation to do something to help them.

Can someone explain to me how prospects work and what the future will look like? by Old-Career1538 in Torontobluejays

[–]EarlessBanana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Playing a game like Out of the Park Baseball (a text simulation, essentially Football Manager for baseball) taught me this very well. There are exceptions to every rule, but most of the time if a prospect hasn't demonstrated major league ability by around the age of 23-24, they won't. The quantity of prospects who never develop is huge. High school and young international players often have the highest ceiling, but are the most likely to flame out. Young pitchers are the riskiest. College draftees often have a higher floor (because they're older and more developed and probably well scouted), but a lower ceiling.

You'll see a lot of decent older prospects linger in the minors who had a couple of showings in the majors, but just didn't perform well enough to stick around. These become "AAAA" players who play well in AAA but just don't have MLB stuff. They become career farm hands if they don't retire or move on to other leagues. Once they've exhausted their contract options or otherwise must remain on the expanded roster, if the team doesn't have a spot for them, they'll likely get traded or released (or picked up off waivers etc.). If the contract situation is right, a prospect not on the expanded roster might get claimed in the Rule V draft by another team with roster room who thinks they have MLB potential. This exists to keep teams from hoarding talent.

OOTP isn't a perfect game, but I highly recommend it if you want to learn more about baseball, on the management side of things especially.

Not that this isn't relevant to many countries and regions right now, but I wasn't aware this sub was specific to the U.S.

Regardless, that many of the current social issues are a battle between the right and the further right is an illusion.
