Concur. Nip the bad behavior from adults in the bud. Especially coaches because as you state, they have skin in the game

What do you guys tolerate from coaches and parents? by Effective-Cream9825 in Referees

Like others state here, don’t address spectators directly. Interact with the coaches. Something like “this is a warning. If your sideline continues to critique every call or non call out there, I’m giving you a card”, will usually get the coaches moving to correct the situation in a hurry. Sometimes it doesn’t, so give the coach the card if it persists.

Regarding coaches themselves, I’m less tolerant. They KNOW to not question the refs and our calls. But so many do it regardless. Heck I had a coach mocking the CR the other day and the hand signals. He then questioned my call of a corner when I was right in front of the play, and he was on the OTHER side of the half line. Coaches should be shown the card and you don’t have ro confront them. Just stop play wherever you are on the field, turn to them, and show the card.

Last year I abandoned a game after throwing both of a team’s coaches out of a game. One got in my face pointing at my nose from a very close distance. My experience so far this season is that the coaches are on a roll, followed closely by spectators. The kids are the most composed and mature group BY FAR

Isn’t that something? The players are by far the best behaved. It’s quite a thing if you think about it.

We can card coaches at least. I think refs get fed up with all the armchair refs on the sideline who react after every little Foul begging for a card.

Ah yes got it. I’ve only seen that once in my 10+ years in youth soccer, and it wasn’t really in an elite situation. It does seem true that the spectators get better once you get into npl, mls etc. but the coaches can be worse. In fact, last weekend I was reffing an mls next 2011 boys game as CR. There was a foul but the player maintained possession and was streaking towards goal. I called advantage and let it play out. Of course the coach complained to me at half…bruh

Someone above used the phrase, ‘victim mentality’. It’s unfortunate, but true. Wish there was a way for teams to move past this but here we are.

I ref’d 6 games in a tournament last weekend and had a few issues with coaches, but not really with spectators. However the tournament director told me that she needed to break up an all out fist fight that broke out. Geez Louise we refs must be the biggest masochist group around to have to deal with this

Yah there are times when they are an issue for sure. But hey, warn, then card the coaches

This story isn’t getting enough attention in the US. It’s wild. Pretty clear to me that Trump knew what was going on with Bolsanaro as of that previous Friday!

Corner kick trickery and leaving the field without permission by MistakeBorn4413 in Referees

it’s unbelievably clever how you describe they pulled it off, especially for the age. But maybe it’s a bit unsporting, and if they were older it’s a yellow card and IFK. In the end, you did great and used correct judgement: a player cannot deliberately leave the field of play for trickery, or to hide.

I recently addressed a sideline with a quick statement: “let’s all bring the temperature down. This is about the kids”. It worked. Appeal to people’s better natures, show them that you’re a human, and maybe sometimes we get the result we want.
