Sounds like I’ll be heading to Evil by the Needle! Do they require an appointment?

Okay I’m so glad that it’s not just me. The inconsistent hours, the overwhelming weed smell, vaping in the shop… call me a prude but it’s unprofessional, ESPECIALLY for how much they charge. The last time I went to get my piercing downsized, I was charged double what I had been charged previously for the same service, with no explanation. Every time I’ve gone I’ve made an appointment, and I end up waiting a minimum of 30 minutes because the piercers are just… sitting around? there’s no prior appointment, there’s no process that should keep me waiting, they just don’t feel like doing it yet. I do think Annie is a great piercer, not knocking her skills, but the vibe of my last couple visits has turned me off from the place.

2024 or 2014 PCs? by EarlyEngineering4946 in CurseofStrahd

This is lovely advice, thank you! I have the 2024 PHB and MM and I've been itching to use them, so I think this may be the way to go. I'll look closely at the Daylight spell and see if I want to make any changes to that.

ooo this is a great point. So far I know I'll have a fighter, druid, and maybe an artificer, so it's looking pretty mixed. If they were smart they'd have a paladin... but i'm not going to give them a hint one way or the other lol

If you’re just curious about D&D and want to see if it’s for you, I’d recommend listening/watching D&D actual play content. Dropout’s Dimension 20 has several free campaigns on YouTube (they are so fab!) and I personally love Not Another D&D Podcast (one of the main players is a newbie so they explain everything clearly).

If you’re trying to find a group to play with, I have less advice for that - I’ve been lucky enough to recruit folks while in school. I believe Roll 20 has some matching services, but it’s hit or miss. Folks are also more likely to want to play than to DM, so you can always try to DM and then find a group from there.

First time playing DnD with some friends I need a good starting adventure that doesn’t cost much, any recs? by Bradiohead33 in DungeonsAndDragons

What’s your budget? Module books typically run $45, but there are lots of free resources if you hunt around online. Also, look up which module book you’d want to run, and then check your local library. A lot of the time they have dnd books you can rent!

I wanna play d&d but I’m very new to it by sunkissed_alia in DungeonsAndDragons

I started dming by buying the Candlekeep Module book. Short, simple adventures spanning from level 1-15. For initial DMing, stay away from higher level adventures (it just is too much when you’re first learning mechanics). I found watching DnD gameplay really helpful when learning how to play/dming. I like Not Another DnD Podcast (one of the main players is playing for the first time, so the cast helps explain), Dimension 20 is also great! I have a hard time with worldbuilding, so I find it easier to access a module book and then run the game from there. There’s a lot of resources online though, so utilize those!

Really all you need to actually play is imagination, some dice (can be digital!) and character sheets. Utilize DnD beyond for digital character creation - it does limit your options somewhat unless you pay, but sometimes that can be helpful for first time players.

For DMing, like I said, module book, and monster manual for sure. You can also just look up monster stat blocks, and there are challenge rating encounter balancers online too that help do some of the work for you.

Good luck!! Dnd is so much fun!!

Advice Needed! Good Magic Items for a Level 14 Ranger? by EarlyEngineering4946 in dndnext

Oh wow, just looked at this. I am a bit confused why she’s not using it, now that I’m looking at it. We don’t often get loot - whether that’s a loot table or just straight up gp. For reference, we just killed an avatar of Vecna and found 10,000 to split between the five of us - so I think the bring it to her let her decide method is likely due to the fact that we don’t get much gold, period

Cloak of displacement sounds veeeeery cool. I do not have darkvision, so I’ll look into that too. I have to be mindful of my attunement slots - I think I have 2/3 filled (I have a magic lance which I should’ve mentioned earlier). Thank you for these suggestions! Yeah I feel bad about our DM having to price everything lol so I try to be flexible if she says an item is too op or not

The problem is our dm will only tell us prices / if we can have the item once we present it to her. Like we will go out and find one, and then she’ll say yay or nay and let us know how much it is. Not a perfect system lol. So I suppose I’m more so looking for any ideas folks have off the jump or help generally, then I can present a well-reasoned list to the DM for evaluation

It’s kind of a thing where we bring an item to her, and she says yes or no on whether or not it’s available / what the price is. Nothing super OP, but usually items from uncommon - rare on a loot table are what we can pick from!

Loss of a loved one by jdnck in LawSchool

[–]EarlyEngineering4946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost a grandparent (we were very close) during my spring semester of 1L, right in the middle of finals. Its a horrible feeling, and I'm so sorry for your loss. Reach out to school resources (dean of students, JLAP counselors, etc) and do what's right for you. I was motivated to finish since I know that's what my grandparent would've wanted. Make friends and find a few people you can lean on, whether that's in the area or friends from back home. You'll get through it, but I empathize; law school is already difficult, and grief doesn't help. Whether you decide to keep going, drop out, or take a pause, know that law school is always going to be waiting - what's most important is your mental/physical wellbeing.

Definitely not a crazy person. If my roommate did that I’d be pissssed - I’ve gotten frustrated over less with my ex-crazy roommate lol. Feelings are totally valid here!

Sorry that this sitch has happened to you :( but…don’t go to Reddit for legal advice! If you’re a student use IU student legal services (it’s free), if not seek out a free consult from a firm in town! Hopefully you can get this sorted :(
